Surfside Montauk

Posted on Thu, 30 Sep 2021 by KiM

I am in complete denial that summer is over. I am trying to mentally prepare myself to be frozen and miserable for the next 6+ months. In the meantime I will continue to deny the inevitable by staring longingly at summer homes such as this neutral, modern Montauk beauty by Alexander Design.

A designer’s home in Barcelona

A designer however creative feels the constraints of a client’s brief. Very few are given carte blanche. That is of course except for their own homes. Juan Moreno Lopéz-Calull is the founder and designer at John Brown Projects, a Barcelona-based interior design firm and art consultancy and this is his vibrant home. Statement chairs, pops of colour (check out the multi coloured cornice), an iron doorway and art, art and more art. Fun, fresh and fabulous.

La Maison des Oliviers

This stunning property owned in the small town of Noto, in the south of Sicily is 330 sq m with 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms and is owned and designed by Jacques Garcia and available to rent. The Maison des Oliviers, located on a World Heritage site, is surrounded by numerous olive trees dating back two thousand years. The Villa, surrounded in this landscape, evokes the golden age in the 1950’s Café Society and an aristocracy which embraced modernity while remaining linked to the past. Upon entering the villa, the collection of art and objects will transport you into the culture of the 20th century. One can imagine seeing Maria Callas chatting with Jackie Kennedy, being hosted by Gianni Agnelli.

A luxury music-themed home in Austin

Austin in Stereo is a 7,300 sq ft, 4 bedroom home in West Austin where nearly every room of the house was designed by Fern Santini with a unique art or music-themed element. A bar, turntable, Sonos speakers, signed photos of music legends, Woodstock wallpaper, lots of dark walls and graphic patterns make this a really stylin’ and party-ready home. An art collector’s Paris flat

Posted on Thu, 16 Sep 2021 by KiM

A bit more contemporary than the home I shared on Sunday by Luis Laplace, this is the renovated Paris apartment of model Adriana Abascal. She is quite obviously a serious art collector and her 5 bedroom apartment in a Haussmann-era building in the 16th arrondissement with views of the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe is the perfect backdrop. (I am saddened to learn Luis stripped out ornate paneling and replacing busy-looking moldings and baseboards that I assume were original to the 19th century apartment but did keep the original herringbone parquet flooring and marble fireplace mantels.)
