Inside Out and my dream warehouse

Posted on Wed, 25 Feb 2015 by midcenturyjo

Every month an email arrives from Inside Out magazine’s Managing Editor Lee Tran Lam and every month I get excited. The sneak peeks from inside the latest issue of the magazine are always amazing. Today she sent my dream home. I have wanted this particular space ever since I first spotted it in a previous incarnation as Lynda Gardener‘s home. Now it belongs to someone else (boo hoo not me) and I think I love it even more.

This is the home of artist Saskia Folk – whose “pick and mix style” is encapsulated by all the highly original items tucked into her place. There’s a couch decked in “country check”, a giant ice-cream light guarding the bottom of her stairs, a kitchen island bench made from old basketball flooring and kitchen cabinetry constructed from old meter boxes found in the Australian outback. Styling by Heather Nette King, photography by Derek Swalwell, from March issue of Inside Out.

Saskia you’ll have to move out because I’m moving on in! Can’t wait to see more in this month’s issue out tomorrow. Don’t fret if you aren’t in Australia though. You can read along on  ZinioGoogle Play,  the Apple Newsstand and Nook.

Home & Delicious

Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015 by midcenturyjo

I love to start the working week with a virtual holiday have you noticed? Now if I could only find a way to actually make it to Reykjavík, Iceland to stay at Home & Delicious, in one of their three beautifully refurbished apartments in a quiet residential area in the heart of the city, then I’d be beyond happy. Only problem is I can’t make up my mind which apartment to stay in. I’ll have to try all three. Via Welcome Beyond.

Simplicity and refinement

Simplicity and refinement, in shades of black, grey and white. A beautiful and strong combination that always wins. And now I am rethinking painting my yellow hardwood again. *sigh* Via JJ Locations

Damien Langlois-Meurinne

I regret not titling this post “Lighting porn” as these spaces by French designer Damien Langlois-Meurinne are outfitted with some of the most spectacular lights I have ever seen. And some of them are designed by Damien himself. These rooms are glamorous and luxe, but the lighting takes them to another level. They are pieces of art, making a statement.

Living in the catalogue

Posted on Wed, 11 Feb 2015 by midcenturyjo

OK so you all know I fantasise about living in a shop, creeping out of my hiding place after closing time. Well the same goes for living in a catalogue or in these days of the interwebs living in an online shop. I can just see me now. A virtual bag lady pushing my shopping cart from category to category in a virtual retail wonderland, looking for a place to rest. I’d definitely put my virtual feet up in these amazing product shots for Couleur Locale. Yes please! A girl can daydream.
