Warm and sophisticated with a tight colour palette of greens, tan and cream with pops of dramatic black this San Francisco house has ample entertaining spaces with low slung furniture to accentuate rather than block the view. After all if your Russian Hill home looks out to Alcatraz Island then it’s always going to be about the view. Joyce Downing Pickens of JDP Interiors.

“A period home’s minimalistic redesign and extension focusing on supreme detailing, exquisite materiality and a richly layered palette. The interior architecture celebrates clean geometries and a boldness of form. A restrained use of colour punctuates a monochrome palette while bespoke joinery and selected fixtures show a dedication to craftsmanship.”

I’m taking a little journey back to historic Como House in South Yarra. No not a physical journey, more like a jump back a couple of years to Como By Design, a show house featuring 23 of Melbourne’s eminent interior designers under the helm of Tigger Hall. The magnificent house is owned by the National trust so the designers were not able to alter the fabric of the rooms and had to return them to the original state once the event was over including the original wall colour! The house was completely transformed – 2 days to set up & 1 day to pack down. I’ve embedded links to each designer in the pictures. Time to go for a little journey yourself.
Take marble & timber and contrast them with brass, steel and concrete. Create a bold colour palette and accentuate it with striking wallpaper. Play with the relationship between open public spaces and intimate private ones. All with an eye on modern luxury and practical family living. Cammeray Residence interiors by Woods & Warner.
The brief was to reinvent this narrow terrace house into a modern inside outside home. The open plan living area flows seamlessly into the stylish courtyard while the modern kitchen has a birdseye view of all the proceedings. Living large in a stylish small space.
