The perfect marriage

Posted on Mon, 22 Aug 2016 by midcenturyjo

Don’t get me wrong. It’s the perfect marriage of old and new, of fabulous art and practical living, of the quest for the ideal home and the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi. Yes this heritage-listed home in the Brisbane suburb of New Farm by MMO Interiors may represent the perfect design marriage (and my dream home) but, if it was mine, I’d be taking the art in the event of a break up. Actually that’s wrong. I’d want it all.

Seamless beauty

“An elegant background for everyday living.” That’s what Brooklyn-based architectural firm Bangia Agostinho strive to create and I can’t get enough. This extensive renovation in Carroll Gardens takes the building back to its beautiful, simple bones and seamlessly inserts the perfect living space for a modern family so that traditional and contemporary complement and enhance.

Fusion of art deco and modern

Ninou Etienne of Fusion D is all about the fusion of drop dead gorgeous original architecture in dwellings around Bordeaux, France and the modernist sensibilities of her clients. In this home Ninou added graphic elements with tile and wallpaper for some drama and playfulness. You walk through the door and BOOM!

Onetangi Beach House

There’s something subliminal going on with my posts so far this week. Beach houses and holiday rental accommodation, accommodation and houses by the sea. Perhaps I need some time off? A holiday in a beach house? Or perhaps it’s just where the interwebs have taken me this week. Like this beautiful home at Onetangi Beach by New Zealand design firm Sumich Chaplin Architects. Open the doors and drink in that view.

An eclectic Georgian Townhouse

Posted on Mon, 15 Aug 2016 by midcenturyjo

The renovation of this London Family home by Compass & Rose is a mix of Scandinavian style and a fresh, bright and youthful feel. With amazing Georgian bones as the perfect starting point, the house received a new kitchen and eclectic interiors. Love, love, love that kitchen. Sympathetically modern yet traditional, scandi and a touch of industrial all rolled into one. (See kim’s previous post on Compass & Rose here.)
