The one that got away

Posted on Mon, 8 Feb 2016 by midcenturyjo

Woe is me! It’s nothing but gnashing of teeth and the renting asunder of clothing on my part. I am in deep mourning. This moody Swedish apartment is sold and will never be mine. Only these images are left to mock me. 152 sq m turn of the century penthouse in Stockholm sold by real estate agents Wrede. Link here while it lasts.

Latest from Fiona Lynch

Posted on Thu, 4 Feb 2016 by midcenturyjo

Built by a builder for his young family, this Balwyn, Melbourne home is the latest project from interior designer Fiona Lynch.

“A minimal approach to materials has created an interior which is reflective and relaxing in feel. Concrete, timber and stone are the main materials in this project. Aged brass and grey stained oak cabinetry compliment the minimal approach to materials.”

Sophisticated, restrained, always with an eye to detail Lynch’s design is beautifully resolved.

Hicks Street carriage house

Posted on Thu, 28 Jan 2016 by KiM

Back in June ’14 Jo featured the really beautiful Hicks Street townhouse by New York firm Kevin Darkan Architect. I thought today I would share the Hicks Street carriage house. This totally changes my perspective on what a carriage house is. This ain’t no outbuilding! WHOA! The painted brick, exposed ceiling beams, skylight, and ah mah gawd the kitchen!! What a dream home! (Speaking of dream homes, I’m trying to convert mine into something I can maybe call a dream one day – check out my next post in a few hours. Slowly but surely I’m filling it with things I love.)

La Micheline

Posted on Wed, 27 Jan 2016 by midcenturyjo

It’s Wednesday. Hump day. Time for a virtual getaway to the Ardennes region of Belgium, to La Micheline, an old railway station now a holiday home set amongst meadows. If the impressive renovation and rebuild using bluestone, rough hewn wood and concrete isn’t enough to get your design juices running there’s even an old railway line with trolleys. The gîte is the creation of architectural photographers Anne and Jean-Luc Laloux and is a sister property to La Classe which we featured here.

Working on a Saturday

My position stays the same week after week. If you have to drag your sorry arse into work on a Saturday it better be somewhere stylish. After drooling over the retro offices of Moscow-based interior design studio A3 I’m planning on learning Russian.

Здравствуйте, меня зовут Джо. Я хотел бы найти работу.”
