A farmhouse on the Yorkshire Moors

Posted on Tue, 21 Nov 2023 by KiM

The design of this Yorkshire farmhouse was inspired by the surrounding moors and architecture and design firm Dunning & Everard created a wonderfully inviting and comfortable home within these vaulted spaces (I love a tall ceiling!). Some of my favourite elements: to die for bookcases in several rooms, a fireplace, a gloriously dark green kitchen with punchy zellige tiles and breathtaking views. (Photos: Brent Darby)

Contrasts with neutrals

Clean, classic, neutral, textured and contrasting. This is such an easy-going, timeless and sellable style that is so fabulous in this Los Angeles home designed by Katie Hodges. I am particularly fond of the ‘California-meets-English-Swedish’ kitchen. Definitively not something trendy that would need re-renovating anytime soon. Photos: Haris Kenjar.

Serene sophistication

“Nestled in the historic Presidio Height neighborhood of San Francisco, this Colonial Revival home had beautiful bones but needed to be reformatted spacially to gain more kitchen and living space, grow the bottom level, allow more natural light, and update all finishes. Careful attention to millwork details, natural stone, and special wall finishes took precedence on the architectural side. While on the decoration front, we placed emphasis on a mix of classic and modern silhouettes, with heavy use of vintage pieces to add a European sensibility.”

Bespoke pale pink and blue walls, a kitchen decorated with turrets and finials, murals and tree wallpapers mix with antique and vintage furniture to create the prettiest, eclectic Victorian home in east London designed by Rachel Chudley. I love that it’s precious but not too precious and the colours are sooo soothing. Photos: Paul Massey

The perfect beach retreat

Posted on Fri, 10 Nov 2023 by midcenturyjo

Nestled at the village’s northern edge, Thorpeness Beach House boasts a breathtaking location with panoramic views of the North Sea at sunrise and serene heath and woodland in the background. As an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it offers unparalleled tranquillity. Crafted for multiple generations of the same family, the house harmoniously integrates with its surroundings. Two sturdy masonry blocks house private areas, while a timber pavilion bridges them, capturing the essence of the landscape. The exterior palette mirrors the sandy hues, blending pale buff brickwork, weathered oak cladding, and brushed aluminium frames, ensuring a seamless connection with nature. The design balances privacy and openness, providing a perfect retreat. By IF_DO.
