Stalking Ilse Crawford

Posted on Fri, 29 Apr 2016 by midcenturyjo

Last year Ilse Crawford sold her London apartment and we all remembered how much we loved it. (You can still see the listing here.) Now Dinder House, another creation that had us swooning, is for sale through Knight Frank. Nine bedrooms, 7 reception rooms, 5 bathrooms and THAT kitchen diner in a Regency-era property set in over 21 acres in Wells, Somerset, England. Oh my I have loved this house so hard for so long. The real estate listing photographs, below, don’t do the interiors justice but they do give us a stalker’s peek into other areas of the house and the amazing grounds. This is also the perfect time to share my favourite part of the kitchen. Not the marble and lacquer main kitchen but the scullery next door. Both by Artichoke it’s the behind the scenes pantry that I’ve had in my kitchen inspiration files for many a year. The link to the house listing is here. Price is on application but it does not take a stretch of the imagination to realise almost all of us can’t afford it but if you can, and you buy it, can we all come round to visit?

… and that scullery…

Up on the roof

Posted on Fri, 22 Apr 2016 by midcenturyjo

I’m rounding out the week with another project from French design firm GCG Architectes, a rooftop home and garden terrace. The architects modified an off-the-plan house, streamlining, ironing out layout problems, improving functionality and brightness. Then the fun began with interiors by Kierszbaum Intérieurs. Eclectic in style, exuberant in taste, fun and fab meets OTT, it is like a magpie collection of trinkets and treasures. Just when you think you cannot take any more there is the garden. Oh the garden. A little piece of paradise on the banks of the Seine.

The joy of being French

Posted on Tue, 19 Apr 2016 by midcenturyjo

I can think of a number of words to describe this 240m2 apartment in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, colourful, eclectic, family friendly, stylish, but the word that sticks in my mind is joyous… or perhaps riot. A joyous riot of colour and pattern and style. Imagine the delight every morning when you awake to such a wonderful home. Industrial chic

Posted on Sun, 17 Apr 2016 by KiM

When I spotted this home on Shoot Factory I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Industrial chic style with beautiful architectural details with white painted exposed brick and wood panelling and moldings in every nook and cranny. Paint some of it black and I am having heart palpitations. Add a marble countertop and I can hardly breathe. (Blakes London seems to have had something to do with this).

Family townhouse redo

Posted on Fri, 8 Apr 2016 by midcenturyjo

“The Lorimer Street Townhouse is a three-story, twenty-five foot wide, two-family house located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. Every wall, ceiling, stair, floor and window of the house was replaced in the extensive renovation. The result is an open, loft-like home for a family of four. A custom, steel and solid wood tread stair divides the Parlor Level into a Living Room side at the street front and a Dining and Kitchen side at the rear of the building with garden access through 3 new, patio doors. Existing wood joists were exposed on the Parlor Level with insulation added to the underside of the floors above. Reclaimed floors compliment the existing joists and add to the rustic feel of this urban home.”

A massive redo but the results are outstanding. Love the bathroom. Love the industrial vibe of the exposed ceilings, those floors and the central steel staircase. By Elizabeth Roberts and Ensemble Architecture.
