A light filled galley kitchen

Posted on Thu, 19 Dec 2013 by midcenturyjo

I love this light filled kitchen that provides the link between the old and new in this inner-city Sydney terrace house. Reclaimed bricks and rustic timber shelf balance the sleek modern lines and smooth stone benchtop of the galley kitchen. Light tumbles in from the skylight while the transition from traditional dining room to the modern alteration is made via worn sandstone steps. Finally the space reaches a small but stylish courtyard. Such a beautiful space for cooking. By Paddington based design firm Alexander & CO.

The cook’s kitchen

I had to revisit the MAKE architecture portfolio. There was a kitchen renovation I had to share. The kitchen/dining area of this art deco home was upgraded so that the owners could run a cooking school. Large enough to allow for classes, intimate enough for day to day living. I love the interplay of the black with the timber and the gleam of metallic highlights, the art deco style glass and steel doors and the rustic dining table. I would love to cook here. More importantly I would love to share my food with family and friends here.

Funky solution to a long narrow kitchen dining area. Sliding steel and glass doors in this extension to an old terrace house open to blur the line between inside and out allowing natural light deep into the space. Surry Hills house by Anthony Gill Architects.

LOVE

Helloooooo one of cutest bathrooms I’ve ever seen. I love your flat black ceiling and gold dangling light bulb fixtures and white mosaic tiles and white painted brick and trough sink and library card shelving unit and fish art.

I’m really liking this kitchen too. And it matches the bathroom aboove. 🙂 I don’t know where the fridge is and as much as I love the lack of upper cabinets, I don’t know how pratical the space is. But it’s got lots of counter space and a really cool modern vintage vibe.

I just had to show one more shot by the amazing photographer Jeroen van der Spek. Love the kitchen. Love the shot!
