A townhouse in the West Village

Posted on Thu, 22 Oct 2015 by KiM

My New York townhouse spree has not stopped. This West Village home that was completed a few years ago by BWArchitects is fan-freaking-tastic! Located in historic Greenwich Village, this extensive reconstruction of a 1840s townhouse fuses past and present into a new, sophisticated 4,000 square foot home. Striking a balance between historic and modern guides all aspects of design in this reinvigorated Greek Revival townhouse. Steel and glass windows line the basement and parlor floors’ South facades, drawing in natural light and air from the garden. Daylight is also funneled through the home via a skylight-topped 4- story open staircase. Industrial details of structural steel and an exposed manually-geared hardware operate a pivoting glass and steel Penthouse wall. Interior design by Poonam Khanna.

The best spot in the house – above leading into below 🙂

Still stalking

Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015 by midcenturyjo

I’m arranging an inspection. Who wants to come? We can open the wardrobes, rifle through the drawers when the agent isn’t looking, find out who lives here. Then we can assume their lives and their house. That’s what stalkers do don’t they? No no no. Just kidding. That’s creepy. I would love to meet whoever owns this lovely home though. Great taste. Link here while it lasts.

Kevin Dumais – Bridgehampton

This rather large weekend retreat in Bridgehampton, New York is quite the gathering spot for friends and family of the homeowners. Interior designer Kevin Dumais gave the formal/traditional structure some casual comfort when decorating the home and the result is cool urban sophistication with a retro/vintage vibe. The inside is pretty spectacular, and then when you head outside – BOOM! It just keeps getting better. Photos: Eric Piasecki. (It’s been a while since I featured his work here and here)

Fiona Barratt

Luxury and elegance. This is what London-based interior designer Fiona Barratt is all about. I would walk into these spaces and think “fancy schmancy” but they’re not pretentious or blingy. It’s put-your-feet-up-on-the-coffee-table luxury.

Johnston Parke Interiors – Hampshire

This home designed by Fiona Parke of Johnston Parke Interiors is an absolute gem. The colour palette is so earthy and warm and the blues (helloooo velvet chesterfield!) are just gorgeous. I don’t even mind that the entire living room area is carpeted – I almost didn’t notice and I ALWAYS notice right away (maybe because I’m imagining what a nightmare it would be in my house of 8 cats who consistently barf on any carpet but rarely hardwood). Beautifully photographed as well – always a bonus.
