A Federation style house and a modern extension. An earlier renovation that just wasn’t working for the owners. Enter Multiplicity who have taken the addition, changed ceiling heights, opened walls with glazing, added interest through timber joinery and brought the uninspiring space to life without the wholesale waste of demolishing an addition that was under 10 years old.

There is something about a house that lets the view do the talking. A beautiful, black box sits lightly on the steep block. Interiors are kept simple yet stylish. It’s the use of glass and of the view that makes this home so special. Positive and negative space. Volumes and voids. Public views and intimate space. A Wellington, New Zealand home renovation by BC+AArchitecture.

A Melbourne family home undergoes a make over by Maxa Design and not only is it funky and fresh but the design team have adhered to eco friendly building principles. Prize winning, stylish, family friendly, affordable and sustainable. A great combination.

When is an apartment more than shelter, more than home? When it is art. The sculptural form of this loft apartment in West Melbourne by Adrian Amore Architects blurs the line between habitation and installation. Curvaceous and twisting, the staircase leads to first the sleeping level then rises to the rooftop terrace.
(P.S. You may recognise the space from my real estate stalking here.)

Light and shadow, solid and pierced, concrete and timber, private and public, inside and out. Family home, coastal home, another home by Wolveridge Architects. Eltham South, Blairgowrie in Victoria and, yes, also shortlisted for the Australian Interior Design Awards 2014.
