…when I wanted to dive through my monitor and experience the photos we feature, now would be the ultimate. Absolutely beautiful. Via Nicolas Schuybroek Architects.

I adore this home of architect Nicolas Schuybroek that he renovated. It was a slum dwelling and with a minimal budget we’ve been able to renovate it from the ground floor all the way up. We’re standing in my office, which used to be a well-known gastronomic restaurant and back in the forties this space housed a butcher shop. The beautiful tiles on the wall remind us of that period. First, I was thinking of removing them because they aren’t in good condition. But now I’m glad I didn’t. The same goes for other decorative elements in the house, such as the fireplace, the moldings, the wooden doors and floors and the staircase. We really wanted to preserve the volumes and charm of the building, although its charm is largely defined by the collection of furniture. The classic style mixed with midcentury iconic lighting and furniture and neutral colour palette really do it for me. Brisbane based interior design firm Wrightson Stewart is on a roll this year. Amazing work and amazing recognition for their innovative, contemporary, masculine designs. Now they have been shortlisted in four categories at the Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) for 2013,  Event Design, Workplace Under 1000m2 (both can be seen here), Single Residential and  Designer of the Year Award (first time a Queensland firm has been shortlisted for the big gong). It’s easy to see why. Here is the warehouse apartment that has been garnering all the attention. So cool, so urban, with a minimal colour palette and clean lines with just a riff of retro. Congratulations WS!

Perhaps I’ve been living under a rock lately, but I only just discovered (thanks to some random googling) the blog The Socialite Family, created by Constance Gennari. Formerly a children’s fashion journalist and then Art buyer for an advertising agency, I recently decided to immerse myself in the world of blogging to share with you my true passion: observing interior design through the eyes of a family, whether in Paris, New York or anywhere else in the world. I am particularly inspired and passionate about these contemporary, urban families and through this blog, wish to inspire you with my interpretation of these unique environments and people. I LOVE this blog – it’s essentially MilK magazine in blog form. And speaking of MilK magazine, check out this stunning vacation home of Isis-Colombe Combréas, editor at MilK, her husband and their 2 children (aged 9 & 15). It is located on l’Ile de Ré, an island off the west cost of France. It’s pretty much my dream home – a rustic structure with a black and white colour scheme with some designer pieces mixed in with vintage finds.  GORG!!!

It has been about 5 years since I last featured Parisian architect and interior designer Pierre Yovanovitch, and after devouring his portfolio I have to admit that I’m loving his newer work much more. A bit more refined, a bit more rustic, a bit more neutral. Elegant and contemporary, design projects that persuade by the strength of their soundly conceived architectural presence that gracefully avoids both complication and ostentation. So good I have some favourites coming up later.
