Diving into the weekend

Posted on Fri, 27 May 2016 by midcenturyjo

With only a couple of days until winter in my part of the world we are still experiencing summer temperatures. Where is winter? I want to pull out my winter wardrobe and layer up. Instead it’s perfect weather for lounging around a fabulous backyard swimming pool like this one by Pepo Botanic Design. I guess I shouldn’t complain too much.

Outdoor space on the roof

Posted on Fri, 20 May 2016 by KiM

Can you imagine having this as your outdoor space? The landscaping and funiture are enough to blog me away, but throw in the most incredible views of the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe and I’m having heart palpitations. By architect Charles Zana

Finca Las Tenadas

I think it’s a first. I honestly believe we have never featured an events complex on the blog. It wasn’t a hard decision though when the space was designed by Isabel López-Quesada. Just 15 minutes from Madrid, Finca Las Tenadas is a series of barns beautifully redefined by López-Quesada and landscape designer Fernando Martos. A fairytale setting for fabulous functions don’t you think? Makes me almost want to get married again… oops I mean renew my vows.

Up on the roof

I’m rounding out the week with another project from French design firm GCG Architectes, a rooftop home and garden terrace. The architects modified an off-the-plan house, streamlining, ironing out layout problems, improving functionality and brightness. Then the fun began with interiors by Kierszbaum Intérieurs. Eclectic in style, exuberant in taste, fun and fab meets OTT, it is like a magpie collection of trinkets and treasures. Just when you think you cannot take any more there is the garden. Oh the garden. A little piece of paradise on the banks of the Seine.

The great outdoors

Posted on Mon, 11 Apr 2016 by midcenturyjo

If truth be told most Australians would live, sleep and eat outdoors. If we have four walls around us at home we scheme and plan for sliding doors and windows that lead onto decks and balconies and patios. We spend thousands on beautiful kitchens then prefer to cook our evening meals on barbecues. We are even known to pile on the woolies and stand out there cooking in the middle of winter. Which is why we all dream of having the perfect outdoor room like this clever extension in Taringa, Brisbane by Nielsen Workshop. The great outdoors have never looked so stylish.
