De Wet 34

Posted on Fri, 10 May 2013 by midcenturyjo

Views that go on forever anchored by the raw textures of concrete, rock and timber. Dramatic volumes defining open plan living areas. Bespoke furniture and high end finishes. Stairs that take you on a tactile journey. A pool terrace that taunts the view and a master bedroom suite that rivals any 5 star resort. Sensual and sensational, definitely a statement home. You’ll find me on the terrace indulging in the view and some rays. De Wet 34, Bantry Bay, Cape town by SAOTA – Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects & OKHA Interiors.

A boat dock

Posted on Wed, 8 May 2013 by KiM

This is the coolest boat dock I have ever seen. As soon as I found it I sent it to my sister and brother-in-law who have a cottage, knowing they’d get a kick out of it. Via Texas architecture firm Bercy Chen Studio. Located on a bend in Lake Austin across from Canyonland Nature Preserve, the site is suggestive of the elliptical form that maximizes the beautiful views of the undulating hills beyond. The rounded edges of the dock peel away, allowing more of the landscape to be captured into the visual frame.

Backyard Room

Think of the possibilities. Home office, studio, exercise room, chill zone, man cave, hell no woman cave! A super stylish box down the back of your yard. It’s the Backyard Room. Launched in March this year at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show where it won the sustainability award and the silver award for best garden, Backyard Room is an innovative new offering from the team at Archiblox. I want one for that spot way down the back of my garden. All to my own. Just have to keep it secret from my husband!

Landscaping at its finest

Posted on Tue, 30 Apr 2013 by KiM

Spring is finally here and I’m super excited to see green stuff outdoors! Seeing so much dirt and snow and dormant vegetation gets seriously depressing by the end of winter. An email from Jeffrey of Jeffrey Gordon Smith Landscape Architecture could not have come at a better time. I blogged his gorgeous outdoor spaces here and here, and this time he wanted to share his latest project in Shell Beach, California. It’s a one-bedroom guest house with a LiveRoof and it’s a DREAM. Who cares what the interior looks like when you have this outside? I’d be living outside. Just pitch me a tent somewhere…or I’ll claim one of the hammocks. (Photos by Chris Leschinsky)

Water from stone

Posted on Fri, 19 Apr 2013 by midcenturyjo

I have always loved the idea of a dry stream bed winding its way through a garden. I plan one in my own future backyard jungle. One just like this stone creek by b.e architecture. Love the movement, the “water” ripples conjured up by clever stone placement. A lot of work in the laying but definitely worth it.
