Urban luxury hidden down a gritty city lane. Venture beyond the gates and this edgy, masculine interior is all about high end spec and industrial meets art gallery meets downtown glamour riffs.   Dark stone is washed by bright light flooding through walls of glass yet all is secluded and private. I’m real estate strolling scrolling in the Melbourne suburb of Carlton. Link here while it lasts.

I love those emails that pop into your inbox bearing gifts. No not offers of sponsored posts or products to review. I love those emails that readers send of amazing homes they’ve found on their own real estate adventures, little gifts from kindred spirits. This hidden gem is a stables conversion in the Melbourne suburb of Albert Park. Metres from the sea it is the über stylish home of interior designer Jane Charlwood.  Think soaring voids, rafters and exposed brick feature walls, beautiful furniture and standout art. Even better think lush gardens, inviting alfresco areas and all of it wrapped up in rambling ivy. It’s going to auction but with a price guide of over $7 million most of us will only be dreaming but oh the lovely dreams! Link here while it lasts.

I don’t know about where you come from but here is Australia these kind of apartments are common. Whether a new build or as in this case a warehouse conversion the developer maximises their profit by minimising the occupant’s square metres by building the bedroom up on a mezzanine floor. Not my favourite type of living but this little apartment in Melbourne’s Fitzroy (of course!) makes the most with what it has been given. An ivy clad courtyard provides a beautiful outlook through a double height window while the owner’s vintage vibe and love of books injects life into what could be a pokey little box.  Exposed beams and judicious use of voids are little added extras. The sad thing is this inner city pad has a guide price of over $1 million when it goes to auction. Ouch. Link here while it lasts.

A quick six

I hate to play favourites but when it comes to real estate stalking I love the inner Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy. Gritty and funky, artistic and happening, inner city history and innovation. From small redo apartments to OTT heritage conversions, terrace houses to warehouses. Click on the images to be taken to the listings while they last. Via realestate.com.au.

I spotted this 45mapartment on the real estate site Lagerlings and wanted to share as this is such a telling example of what architectural details can do to trick the eye into believing a space is not as it as it appears. In this case tall ceilings and dramatic windows make the space appear larger. Even with the addition of a crittall-style bedroom separation it provides an air of grandeur. Gorgeous!!!
