Melbourne-based Studio Edwards and the converted apartment in Fitzroy. Marble walled bathroom, gold Murphy bed, hovering steel monolithic kitchen. It’s hard to believe this design is 5 years old. Microluxe seems to have moved on. I wonder if the studio apartment remains?

Muted, muddy tones (such as Farrow & Ball’s Mouse’s Back, the colour of my bedroom that I am obsessed with) and a carefully curated mix of scultutal furniture and accessories come together to create a serene yet stylish dwelling in a Kensington flat of designer Rui Ribeiro. How to make a bland apartment in the middle of the city cozy yet sophisticated? Layers! Add in lots of art (large scale works!), lighting, comfortable furniture and pillows in soft fabrics. Alllll the fabrics! I adore all the upholstered pieces, particularly in the bedrooms that add to the comfort and give a cocooning vibe. Hats off to Gari Camaisa for the fabulous job designing this Sutton Place, NYC condo.

Welcome to this tiny (30sq m) Haussmannian pied-à-terre with its beautiful original features and bespoke pieces to delineate spaces and provide function. A small kitchen sits in an alcove carved from a central volume which houses the bathroom and a mezzanine sleeping area above. The living room is separated from the bedroom by a berry coloured fluted screen providing privacy and a pop of colour. Boulevard Haussmann by Paris-based Batiik Studio.

My previous post was of the cabin at Settle. Now time to introduce the restored train carriages. Perfect for a calm, rustic, back to basics getaway. We rescued three retired railway goods carriages, sympathetically restoring them to offer luxurious lakeside retreats. Each offers two sleepyheads a lounging area by a wood fire, a well-stocked kitchen, a cosy bathroom, and a decking terrace, with a fire pit, overlooking a scenic lake.
