GAWD I love a good NY townhouse. This one was completely gutted and turned into a single family home (for a family with 4 kids) by DHD Architecture and Design. It remains classic but has some funky bits added here and there to keep it youthful. The stair balustrade, as well as the original doors to the bedrooms were maintained, giving the home a nod to its past but with a fun updated interior for the young family. Soaring ceiling heights add to the elegance on the Parlor floor, in addition to the original fireplace that received a new mantel surround. Throughout the home, a combination of vintage furniture and lighting mixed with new modern classics gave this home a feel of elegance and light. (Photos: Rick Lew)

I love love LOVE this project by London-based architecture, interior and furniture design firm Minale + Mann. It has an aura of class, and elegance, but edgy and cool. This classic Victorian townhouse was designed, renovated and refurbished by M+M, in collaboration with Buster + Punch. A bespoke brass kitchen, distressed chevron timber flooring, a 20ft master suite, M+M and Buster + Punch designed lighting and furniture throughout, are all key design features, centred around a 100yr old Olive Tree in a double void space.

Classic yet contemporary, clean lines, mixing vintage with investment pieces….this is what San Francisco interior design and stylist Melanie Stewart is all about. This all gets pumped up with some of the best wallpapers patterns, graphic stripes, and drama added via black furniture pieces. The result is top notch.

Sometimes the only way to go is down, like in this refurbish/extension project of a Victorian home located in the UK. Riarch Architects pushed the boundaries of basement design by going two stories below ground floor level to create a light and spacious kitchen and family room, with teen hangout beneath it. Thanks to a ton of windows and 2 huge sets of sliding glass doors, you would never know you were technically in a basement. Impressive!
