Bar carts, liquor zones, beverage centres etc.

Posted on Tue, 14 Apr 2015 by KiM

I have been talking for YEARS about having a corner of my home where I could display bar glasses and stash my collection of wine and liquor. Unfortunately in my previous home there was just no room to carve out specifically for this purpose. Now that I have a larger home that isn’t 11 sq ft wide I am going to make damn sure I make this dream come true. Whether I purchase a vintage bar cart, use the top of my dining room sideboard or get husband to convert a large vintage record player/radio into a beverage centre/Bluetooth speaker, it is going to happen one of these days. So over the weekend, before the feral cat chaos elevated to new heights, I scoured the interwebs for photos of inspiration. Here are some favourites:

Victoria Elizabeth Design

Victoria Soloman of Victoria Elizabeth Design creates glam, sophisticated and timeless spaces using a mix of colours, patterns and delightful antique finds. I am a fan, as I seem to see eye to eye with her about how gold accents rule, and mixing eras lends an element of surprise to a space. Love her!

Openhouse Magazine

Posted on Sun, 12 Apr 2015 by KiM

There is a new magazine out there and this one should be added to your subscribe list. OPENHOUSE Magazine is a twice yearly publication, that looks to bright, creative people from around the world, that open their homes or their private spaces to the public, to make different activities about gastronomy, art and design. In the current issue we talk to Jermome Waag, head chef at Chez Panisse, about what he likes to cook at home for his friends in his time off. In a small village in the italian countryside, Attillio and Paola live in the old Cinema Flora, and regularly open their doors for film nights. We take a peek into the Freunde von Freunden Apartment in Berlin, that takes shape as an office, event space and a cosy apartment for occasional overnight guests. Amaryllis Jacobs has made her wonderful home in Brussels into a twice yearly gallery space, Maniera, for architect designed pieces…..among others. I especially love this first loft space – the plant filled TV hang out space is amazing!!! I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy. Definitively one to leave out on the coffee table. Happy Friday!

Happy Friday dear readers! I leave you with this photo, a fine piece of decor ass if I may say. Sexy black floors, sheepskin extravaganza (my cats would lose their minds) and a SWEET brutalist light fixture. Via C Home (photo by Douglas Friedman).

Art in (a) flat

Posted on Fri, 10 Apr 2015 by midcenturyjo

Milan-based web designer Franco Scarpino has a bolt hole in San Leonardo di Cutro, Calabria on the Ionian Sea. Here in his 40 sq m attic apartment he can throw open the windows and gaze out to see. But Franco seems to spend most of his time looking inside his flat.On the wall there are works of 15 different Italian artists. You see Franco is part of a home based gallery movement Art in Flat which brings artists and home owners together to exhibit art in one of its most natural habitats, the walls of a house. You could say this post is half reader’s home half home exhibition. I think I need to get involved in something like this here in Australia. A very cool idea.
