Into the woods

Posted on Wed, 22 Jan 2014 by KiM

W O O D. If a home completely swathed in wood is not your thing, divert your eyes immediately. Into The Woods is another project by Breathe Architecture, where you will find an insane amount of different type of wood throughout the home. I LOVE the exterior – also wood! (I wonder if they threw in the tattooed lumberjack). Photos again by Andrew Wuttke

Stonewood

Breathe Architecture, based in Australia, have the whole package. Their architecture skills are mind-blowing – so much attention to detail and various materials used throughout their homes that it’s almost a shame to fill them with furniture. Their interior designers know exactly how to work a space so as not to overshadow the details. They stage their work for their portfolio in a way I have never seen before – creativity and humour abound. Then they get a great photographer (Andrew Wuttke) to work his magic. Et voila – the result. Welcome to Stonewood.

We’re all guilty of it. File away our favourite images and promptly forget about them as we flit from the current new favourite to the next new favourite. I went drifting in a most delightful daze through my files looking for inspiration for a new project I’m working on when I came upon these spaces by Sara Ruffin Costello. Perfect!

And nothing to do with my project this set of stairs. Just because I love plants huddling in groups on steps.

galeria arquitetos

Fernanda Neiva, Fernanda Palmieri and Gil Melo are the talented trio behind galeria arquitetos, based in Sãp Paulo, Brazil. I really love these spaces – bright, energizing, functional and liveable. I now want yellow wall cabinets and a wall of plants.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 20 Jan 2014 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, if the photo is too dark or unfocused then it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!

Attached is a photo of my furry nephew, Zia. He’s an affectionate Birman cat living in South Africa and always looks regal on my parent’s furniture.

Our Boston Terrier, Gedman, on his favorite blanket in the master bedroom. Who am I kidding? Every blanket is his favorite.

I’ve already sent you a photo from my five years-old cat, Diniz, on December 2012. Here’s another photo. He’s sitting on my place, when I came back from the kitchen 🙂
