Debra Cronin

Posted on Wed, 25 Aug 2010 by midcenturyjo

Imperfect and aged, decrepit and beautiful. A house’s history seems to be hot right now. Layers of life left not hidden, stripped but not shunned. Debra Cronin is creating spaces less ordinary. I love this crumbling home that she has brought back to life and where she now runs an underground dining experience Bite Club with partners David and Virginia. As they say on their website “Think Alice In Wonderland meets The Addam’s Family”. Dinner group anyone?

Shawn Henderson

Posted on Tue, 24 Aug 2010 by KiM

It’s been quite some time since Jo blogged about New York interior designer Shawn Henderson, who designs “interiors that feel comfortably sophisticated, rich and relaxed, personal and original.” I recently happened upon his website and discovered more classic yet cool spaces that captivated my immediate attention.

P.S. Just wanted to quickly wish my twin sister a very happy birthday. Sis, here’s hoping your life at 35 is a bit less chaotic and stressful and preferably more “normal” than it has been of late.

Well readers some of you will have a sneak peek at interior designer Greg Natale’s latest glam Sydney home if you take Desire to Inspire via RSS feed. Some of you will have seen it for an hour or two before I took it down 😉 Most of you will have to wait. Why take it down? Because it made the cover of a prestigious Australian magazine!!! Greg, who generously shared pictures taken by Anson Smart with Desire to Inspire today, has just emailed to ask that we hurriedly put it back under wraps until next week’s big unveil. Congratulations Greg!!! A cover. No wonder you are a super star of Oz design. For those who are wondering what all the fuss is about above is a room from the same house on the cover of (inside). Now we all just have to wait.

Flickr finds – modern living interiors

Posted on Sun, 22 Aug 2010 by KiM

I spent 14 hours on the road yesterday driving back from Prince Edward Island, and since I had nothing ready to post today, I just zipped through the Flickr group modern living interiors and snagged some photos of people’s personal spaces that I like. Enjoy.

WINKS

Posted on Sat, 21 Aug 2010 by midcenturyjo

… is it that time again?!!!
WINKS – weekend links. Here we list what has come in during the week, things we’ve found and things we think you’ll want to see. If you’d like to see your blog or website featured email us and if we think it fits with our readers we’ll link you. So what’s in this week?

  • How cool is the Runner Table from Duffy London? Thin steel legs combine with a substantial walnut table top.  Deceptively weightless it appears to float. Love the crisp modern lines. Launching at London Design Week 2010.

  • Reinterpreting the usually conventional camel back sofa is the Moreau by PINCH. Seriously sexy!!! Actually there’s not a thing on PINCH’s website that I don’t love.

  • This is the NOOK stool by the German company VIAL. Designed by Patrick Frey it combines straight lines with soft and symmetrically arranged curves. I’m loving its sculptural feel. Indoors or out.

  • Time for some “save-the-dates”. First up Sibella Court is having her next flea market at her wonderland of a store The Society Inc September 4th. The last one looked a treat! No fair I don’t live in Sydney. If you do then this is a must, must, must. 18 Stewart Street, Paddington, NSW – 8am till 12pm.

  • Also not fair that I don’t live in Sydney is the Signature Prints Florence Broadhurst sale. SALE: Friday 3rd, Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th September 10am – 5pm Unit 2/3 Hayes Road, Rosebery, NSW. The fabric! The wallpaper! The offcuts!!!! If Ms Broadhurst’s designs make you quiver then this sale is not to be missed.
