Friday retro

Posted on Fri, 9 Apr 2010 by midcenturyjo

The Easter break has turned my week upside down. Retro on a Friday? No time is a wrong time for a blast from the past! It’s a bumper post today. Usual story… some revolting, some revealing, some could have been put together just yesterday (well maybe the day before the day before yesterday). Let’s give it up for the amazing Golden Homemakers 100 Ideas to Beautify Your Home, Gudenian Rockail & Mayer, Marshall Cavendish, London, 1972.

Matthew Mead’s newest mag

Posted on Thu, 8 Apr 2010 by KiM

I just wanted to give you all a quick heads-up about a new special holiday “bookazine” coming out this October by the fabulous stylist/photographer Matthew Mead. Jo and I have been asked to participate in the mag on a panel of blog experts (check them all out here) contributing either a holiday inspired project, recipe, gift-wrapping technique, tradition, etc. We can’t wait! Anyhoo, Matthew is offering the chance for anyone who purchases the magazine today and tomorrow to win 2 give-away prizes (winner’s choice), and winners will be announced on Saturday, April 10th. So to pre-order the mag and be eligibile for a great prize go on over to Matthew’s blog. You know you want to…especially if you fell in love with his last magazine like I did. Below are some images Matthew took of the gorgeous prizes. Talk about incentive!

Tim Bjorn

Tim Bjørn is one of Denmark’s top photographers, creating spaces that seem to jump off the page (or in this case the screen). Whether cluttered or sparse, everything he photographs exudes life of it’s own and has you craving more.

Right royal oak

Posted on Wed, 7 Apr 2010 by midcenturyjo

It’s not often that I am excited by a supplier’s website. Lots of close-ups of tile or timber but no juicy photos. That is until I stumbled across Royal Oak Floors by Harper & Sandilands. Swoon! Not only a stunning product but a gallery of work that leaves you breathless. Is there anything more beautiful than natural finishes like oak masterly installed? Harper & Sandilands, an Australian company determined to lead their niche market have worked with the best of the best Australian designers and architects. Think Carr Design,  Ellenberg Fraser, Atticus & Milo, BARstudio, B.E Architecture, Hecker Phelan & Guthrie, Leeton Pointon Architects and Woods Bagot to name a few. Head to the website to see more projects. I’m still lusting after a room just like these.

Check us out in Inside Out mag!!

Posted on Tue, 6 Apr 2010 by KiM

Jo just emailed me a scanned copy of the latest issue of Inside Out magazine (one of our absolute favourites by the way). It’s their special 10th birthday issue and inside is a story called “style ideas that never date” featuring an expert design panel…..and Jo and I are one of their experts!!! We’re included with the likes of stylist Sibella Court, Glen Proebstel their style director, and Karen McCartney their editorial director. This is so exciting for us – we’re so thrilled and honoured that the mag wanted to include us on their panel. Thank you Inside Out!!!!

Just got home and on to the blog and all I can say is “squeal”. I love Inside Out and I’m so honoured to be part of their 10th anniversary issue. You must must must get your hands on a copy. It is full of the most beautiful homes of the most talented people in Australia. Stellar edition! – Jo
