Shabby chic done soooo right

Posted on Sun, 7 Jun 2015 by KiM

I featured this glorious home quite some time ago via JJ Locations and it turned out to be the home of super talented interiors photographer Debi Treloar. It seems to have had a bit of an update since then so I thought you might want to have another look. This is why I need a cottage – where I can get away with painting everything white, and filling it with all good things thrifted. This is what I want to dream about on a warm and sunny summer Sunday. 🙂

A vintage Russian apartment

Posted on Sun, 19 Apr 2015 by KiM

I found this really cool apartment in Russia on The Village and had to share. The owners – I think they’re interior designers from what the translation came up with – decorated this almost to perfection (I have issues with the curtains but I can let that go). Filled with antiques and thrift store finds, the somewhat Parisian decor works so well against the brick walls and herringbone parquet floors. The sleeping lost is a little gem, and I adore the huge art wall and bistro vibe in the kitchen. This would be a fun airbnb.

A guest house in Oregon

Here DeWayne Lumpkin goes again, creating another phenomenal guest house (in Ashland, Oregon) that no guest will EVER want to leave. He is a freaking genius when it comes to re-using existing furnishings and incorporating inexpensive vintage finds to create really fun and inviting spaces. The owners lived in this double-wide manufactured home while they were building their “Dream Home” further up the hill. We used 75% of their furniture – adding textiles, lighting, accent pieces and some furniture along the way. A broken pipe in the kitchen went unnoticed and caused much damage before being discovered. I was brought in to do the kitchen on December 27, 2014 – an insurance job and my first kitchen. After haggling with the insurance company over the difference between my bid and their adjuster’s estimate. With ordering custom cabinets and rebuilding the kitchen from sub-floor up – that work took about 60 days. Then, last Tuesday we started on the rest of the house – which was ready to go in 6 days – I did have a few tricks up my sleeve and we had a painter, electrician & plumber deal with any issues that arose prior to the start date on restyling the rest of the house. We finished on Sunday afternoon and did all the other rooms in the house within the 6 day window. SIX DAYS????!!!!! Dewayne really is a genius. Nicole Futterknecht Arévalo

I am really loving these spaces by interior architect from Peru, Nicole Futterknecht Arévalo. Touches of colour, pattern and whimsy, they are welcoming and springy and remind me of Mexico. Thanks to of the stunning graphic tiles featured in her spaces and my recent trip south, I am seriously considering trying to find a way to replace my gawd-awful kitchen floor tiles with new ones without having to tear apart my kitchen.

Vintage kitchen extra

This kitchen in a 1920s apartment in Stockholm featured in Elle Decoration Sweden is absolutely gorgeous. It was totally renovated but they maintained the peeling and cracked ceiling, added some Ikea cabinetry mixed with vintage pieces, Carrera marble, tiled walls, funky lighting… The resulting space looks like it has been there since the 20’s. SWOON! (photos: Martin Löf
