A converted carriage house

Posted on Tue, 27 Oct 2015 by midcenturyjo

It’s not often that I start a house tour from the back door and move my way to the front but I am totally smitten by the sun room at the rear of this converted carriage house in Boston by interior designer Melissa Miranda. Oh my! Oh my! Not that the rest of the house isn’t wonderful. White and bright with a mix of mid century, scandi, boho and modern it is fun and fresh and stylish.

Achromatic, alabaster, ashen, blanched, bleached, chalky, eggshell, fair, frosted, immaculate, ivory, light, milky, neutral, pearly, snowy, waxen and pink. A white wonderland with minimalist interiors and amazing natural light. Westbourne Park Villas, W2, London for sale via Domus Nova.

P.S. It’s by Claire Lloyd.

The drama of dark and light

I had a few free minutes before heading out to the Ottawa Antique & Vintage Market so I decided to spend this precious break perusing one of my favourite blogs, The Design Files. A couple of homes featured over the past couple of months really blew me away for their dramatic impact and I had to share some of the photos with you. First there was the home of Melbourne stylist, decorator and retailer Lynda Gardener – a converted warehouse whose all white space is the perfect backdrop for rustic, vintage treasures. Then there was the SOHO loft of Australian photographer Martyn Thompson, that is dramatic in its dark palette and random in its decor. Here, hand-painted murals by Martyn’s artist partner Dove Drury Hornbuckle take centre stage. Both are absolutely breathtaking.

Stalking bright and white

I’m in Paddington Sydney and I’m stalking a warehouse conversion. Bright, white, what a delight! Indoor outdoor living with a relaxed, urban cool vibe. Colour, tick. Mid-mod industrial, tick. City skyline views, tick. Party house, tick. Perfect. Just need the $2.4 million. Oh well. A girl can dream. Link here while it lasts.

… and Day

While his New York eerie was all about the night this Miami, Florida townhouse is bright as a day. Interior designer Michael Dawkins layers marble and linen, patinaed wood and shots of living green. Cool interiors call like sirens while darker retreats pull you further in from the sun.
