A gothic-revival castle in Ireland

Posted on Sun, 14 Nov 2021 by KiM

I’ve dreamt about living in a castle in France or Italy but it appears I need to add Ireland to my list. This home was built in 1870, has 5 bedrooms, is  5,543 sq.ft. and is listed through Christie’s at just over 10M USD. St George’s is a most impressive towered and gabled red-brick Gothic-Revival house. It was built in the late 1870’s designed by George Coppinger Ashlin, one of the leading Irish architects of the 19th century. The description includes things like brass armatures, encaustic ceramic tiled floor, glazed lead panelled glass, chamfered Tudor archway, pink polished marble columns, open timber balustrade, corner turret, conservatory, butler’s pantry, oratory…

This is everything a cabin getaway should be. So cozy and relaxing! SETTLE is home to three beautifully restored vintage railway carriages, a handcrafted lakeside cabin and luxury canvas camping, blissfully set in our private Norfolk parkland. The Cabin. Perfect for slow living, our bespoke lakeside cabin is a truly luxurious stay… This handcrafted space was meticulously designed and built by us, combining settle’s signature palette of earthy textures and heritage materials with sleek contemporary fittings and clean lines. Flanked by mature trees and an abundance of native wildlife, this dreamy cabin overlooks the largest of our idyllic waterlily lakes. Heritage timber – one of our most prized materials – clads all the cabin’s interior spaces, its authentic textures bringing the outside ever closer. Mid-century furnishings blend with Scandinavian influences to create a calm, restorative ambiance. For colder days, a large, contemporary wood-burning stove, along with salvaged cast iron radiators throughout the cabin, ensure toasty warmth.

Light and earthy in Austin

Posted on Wed, 20 Oct 2021 by KiM

If light and bright and warm and modern is up your alley then this feature is definitively for you! A savvy professional young woman bought her architecturally noteworthy home in Austin, Texas and reached out to Veneer Designs in Los Angeles to make her design intent come to life. Working remotely to oversee a light kitchen renovation and coordinating furniture, ligtiing, and decor orders, this project proves anything is possible in the digital era. With an owner who is willing to roll up their sleeves and get intricately involved, the warm earthy minimalist style she was looking to achieve fell into place effortlessly. Photos: Charlotte Lea

A Victorian mansion in London

This Victorian mansion in London is insane! That staircase is an Instagrammable moment if I ever saw one. This home has 4 ensuite bedrooms, a lower floor with family room, gym, changing area and sauna and an indoor pool with arches that open up to allow a free flow into the outdoor pool, a roof terrace and much more. Absolutely stunning. Available as a location home through Shoot Factory.

A 15th century Croatian compound

Posted on Sun, 17 Oct 2021 by KiM

Oh so this is what heaven looks like! A 15th century Croatian compound (or castle to flow with my new Sunday theme) complete with a medieval tower, restored by New York–based architect Steven Harris and his husband, interior designer and artist Lucien Rees Roberts. I have to say that in all my years of blogging this is up there as one of the most spectacular properties I have ever seen. What a gem! (Photos: Scott Frances)
