Work?

Posted on Wed, 5 Oct 2011 by midcenturyjo

Work? Really? In a fab office space like this? With a candy bar and table tennis, moss gardens and concrete gold fish bowls? Really? Work? I’m in the wrong job. How cool is this office space designed by artist and interior designer Teresa Leung created for Toronto based IT start up company Archon Systems? Now if I knew anything about IT I’d be polishing up my résumé looking for a job.

Reader request – double desks

Posted on Fri, 26 Aug 2011 by KiM

Today’s reader request is from logsy: I recently discovered your blog (love it) and found myself wading through the first 100 pages in one sitting. Throughout this I saw a double desk (two chairs, two computers, side by side) and forgot to save the picture for inspiration. I now can’t find the page it was on. With this in mind, I was wondering if you’d consider doing a blog post on double desks? Here you go logsy, some side by side desks and a few that are different options for 2-for-1 workspaces.

mode:lina

We received an email the other day from Jerzy Wozniak, one of the founders of the relatively new (since 2009) Poland-based architecture firm mode:lina. The firm recently finalized their premises in an elegant 60’s building basement in Poznan and they wanted to share it with us. “Faithful to the idea of using cheap materials without cheap appearance, designers used lacquered OSB boards for the flooring and furniture. Desks, also made of OSB, are covered with artificial leather to make sketching and drawing more comfortable. Luminaries are produced out of standard profiles used for gypsum-cardboard wall systems and fluorescents. OSB office furniture brings more intimate atmosphere and hides all the cabling and recycle bins.” Fantastic workspace!! I love the use of OSB on the desks and floor giving the furniture a seamless look. And with the white walls and black desk tops it’s a modern and funky colour scheme that I am really into right now. I went poking around their blog and found some cool photos of some of their work-in-progress projects that I wanted to share as well.

Lusting…

…after this dining room.

I adore the Dear Ingo by Ron Gilad for Moooi light fixture (and my fav new store carries it here!), the thick wooden table, the Thonet bentwood armchairs, the Flos Toio floor lamp… but I could do without that rug.

Reader requests – backsplash and home office

Posted on Thu, 14 Oct 2010 by KiM

Reader request time! This one (actually 2) comes from Malou: “My husband and I are constantly inspired by your posts. We’re hoping you can help us with ideas for:1. kitchen backsplashes for an all kitchen with white cabinets and dark gray floors   2. home office with tables in the middle“. Simple enough. So here are some white kitchens, most with grey floors, that have some ideas for backsplashes. After the jump are some offices with tables/desks in the middle of the space.
