This prestigious double fronted Art Deco cream brick beacon of casual regality adorns a fancy suburban street in Moonee Ponds. WOWOWA’s role was akin to a surgeon – preforming open heart surgery, removing the scare tissue of the past renovation and creating a family home that celebrated the playful ornament of the original 1930’s era. The first decision was to mirror the cream & brown brick robustness of the front facade, around the back. A sense of inside outside was crucial to this project. Working around existing bones, the renovation addon reads like an L shaped nugget, but in reality, the living room sits on the base of an existing basement and is largely a reduction more than an alteration & addition.

This chic, contemporary home may look a little museum-like and precious but it is a family home with some really beautiful and bold colours that tone down the seriousness and create a more fun and inviting vibe. This early 18th century Queen Anne manor house in Norfolk is just overflowing with incredible period details, pretty colours and patterns and all the comforts that must have the owners never wanting to leave. A country home in Cornwall screams for quintessentially English décor with layers upon layers of colours, patterns, textures and architectural details in abundance. That is just what Mary Graham and Nicole Salvesen of Salvesen Graham did here and it created such an inviting and warm home that could stand the test of time for decades to come. Originally built in the 1950’s as a two room gentleman’s hunting cabin, this house had been added to over the decades. Our clients decided they wanted to renovate and more significantly expand its footprint to suit their young family’s needs. Self-professed home bodies who love to cook and entertain, they wanted the house to have many cozy nooks where they and their daughters could curl up with a book. Fearless in their pursuit of a colorful, layered home, their love of pattern and saturated hues drove the whimsical story from room to room.
This 8000 sq ft, 22 room home filled with no less than 77 patterns could not be more family-friendly and cozy to the max. There is at least 18 spots where I too would want to curl up with a book, a cat and a coffee. Designed by McGrath II. (Photos: Joshua McHugh)
