Fine dining on a Sunday

Posted on Sun, 25 Nov 2018 by KiM

Despite my love of good food I don’t know what I would be able to concentrate at all on what I was eating if these were my surroundings. You would first have to pick my jaw up off the floor. Congrats to designer Jaime Hayon for coming up with this spectacular decor and what might be the most creative colour combination. La Terraza del Casino in Madrid is where you want to spend a magical Sunday evening. (Can you imagine this for a wedding venue?! *GASP!*)

The Vaults

This quite possibly is my favourite commercial space I have ever shared here. By Dublin-based Kingston Lafferty DesignInspired by fascinating Irish history, The Vaults Live is an innovative and theatrical large-scale tourist attraction located in the heart of Dublin City. The Vaults offers a unique and exhilarating tour and experience by taking the visitor on a journey throughout the most scandalous and exciting tales in a stunningly renovated original four-storey Victorian building. The experience includes stunning 360° sets, state of the art lighting, lavish costumes and special effects. We were contacted by the client, The Vaults Live, to design a café parlour and retail space that visitors are brought into at the end of the one-hour experience.

The last set from the tour is with Molly Malone. We wanted to carry on a narrative from that experience and era, opting to create a lavish and indulgent parlour. With influence from the classic parlour room, we studied and researched Irish examples, wallpapers, furniture, fixtures and fittings, textiles and artwork from the Victorian era before seeking to merge the traditional with contrasting sleek, contemporary elements. We designed the suspended ceiling to house rabbit holes appearing to have grasses growing from them. We altered the roof light to create a tunnel effect to the sky and another to have inset mirror reflecting the Alice in Wonderland inspired chequered floor.

Sunday at the bistro

Posted on Sun, 14 Oct 2018 by KiM

Spižírna 1902 is a bistro in Prague designed by Kamil Štajgl and it is where I want to be hanging out today! The space is absolutely beautiful. The architect wanted visitors to feel as though they were snacking in a garden. Mission accomplished! A bonus is that the food on the bistro’s social media (IG / FB) looks delish!

I found a rendering and a before photo on their FB page – this was a serious undertaking!

A bar in Tuscany

Posted on Sat, 29 Sep 2018 by midcenturyjo

It’s Saturday night. What are you doing? I thought you might like to join me for an aperitivo by the sea. Perhaps we’ll stay for dinner. Yes let’s do dinner as well. I know once we get to La Macchia in the Maremma area of Tuscany we won’t want to move on. Living in the pub

I’ll often walk into a homewares or furniture store and start daydreaming about moving in and making it home. Today I want to move into this Sydney bar and restaurant. No not because I like a drink or two … or three. I love the retro highway motel vibe with a touch of Scandi and some cool modern art. I could also hold the best parties every night. Plausible idea? I thought so 😉  Park House by Alexander and Co.
