Nathan Turner

Posted on Fri, 15 Jan 2010 by midcenturyjo

Mix design, travel and food with a shop that I’m sure we’d all die to see in real life. Take a man with a great eye and an obvious love of entertaining. Send him out to find treasures from all corners and what you’ll get is Nathan Turner, the man and the shop. Ah the shop! If you can’t visit in West Hollywood in person then at least there is 1stdibs.

It’s all in the details

What can you do if you’ve got a space (or in my case an entire house) that is totally lacking any sort of architectural feature? How about some beadboard, trim, chair rail, paneling, moldings! A friend at work has been hitting up my twin sister and I for some decorating ideas for her blah dining room and she mentionned wanting to do some molding on the bottom half of the walls. I told her to got for it as her dining room is a square, with a window, and that’s it. I thought I’d dig up some dining rooms that have some sort of molding or paneling on the walls so she could get some ideas on how to go about it. I’m including some living rooms too because this idea is great for any room in your home (I’m pretty certain I’ll be trying a chair rail in my main bathroom as soon as I get around to renovating it).

Matthew Millman

Posted on Thu, 14 Jan 2010 by midcenturyjo

I startled my husband when I let out a very unladylike “holy sh*t” when Matthew Millman’s website finished loading. Matthew specialises in architectural and interior photography in the west of the USA. His work reminds me of the vast vistas, the open spaces that come to mind with the words “the west”. These could almost be fine art photos rather than magazine shots but who says that fine art can’t appear in mass media? Shot after stunning shot awaits you in his portfolio. The buildings may be spectacular by Matthew Millman and his camera take them to another level.

P.S. As your thoughts/prayers go out to the people of Haiti perhaps Matthew’s Haiti portfolio will stand as a poignant reminder of a beautiful people.

Small dining spaces

Posted on Wed, 13 Jan 2010 by KiM

Continuing on the “small” theme, today I thought I’d showcase some small dining spaces. My favourite small dining space includes a built-in banquette – preferably in a nook. LOVE THAT. I am determined to one day buy a house that perfectly suits such a thing. I would spend every waking moment there – eating, blogging, reading mags etc. There’s a few banquettes below, among other seating arrangements.

Anitta Behrendt

A good photo isn’t just a frame of film. It’s a frame of mind. A photographer is a weaver of dreams, a story teller, the fairy godmother with a bag full of wishes. I’m wishing, I’m wanting, I’m hooked by these shots by photographer Anitta Behrendt.
