If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!)
“Here is my dog Baron on our Chesterfield. Sometimes I come home and see him sitting like that waiting for me! He’s about 100 pounds at 18 months and cuddly like a teddy bear.”

“This siamese kitty is Gros Garcon, aka GG. He is a very kind and laid back fellow who came into my life about 2 years ago, while I was fostering for an animal shelter. He met and befriended his best buddy Petite Fille, aka Mimi, while residing at the shelter, and their relationship was just too sweet for them to part ways when the time came for a permanent home — so I took them both in. They are absolutely adorable and make for great additions to my family.”
– Gaelle
“This is my co-worker’s King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, Henry, asleep on the sofa. As you can see, he’s getting a lot of work done today in our office.”

A few weeks ago Zdenka sent pictures of her adorable pups for Pets on Furniture. I loved what I saw of her Croatian home in the background. Of course I didn’t go lurking straight away. No I only decided to snoop further today. I’m glad I did! Zdenka’s home is amazing. Simple, stylish, fresh and… you can stay there. It’s the House of Gold and perches in a steep winding lane in the medieval village of Motovun. I’m thinking of getting together a house party. Want to come? (If only it wasn’t a dream… I’d love to visit Croatia.) If you want to see what Zdenka started with and her renovation journey visit her blog. It’s not for the faint hearted. OMG what a transformation!
… and thanks for the long weekend!
Let me explain. It’s a long weekend in most (but not all) of Australia. We are having an extra day off because it’s Queen Elizabeth II ‘s birthday. Except that was back in April and I live in a country that is slowly moving towards a republic. Just a good Aussie excuse of a three day weekend. So happy belated birthday Liz, Queen of the Commonwealth realms: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Belize, Antigua and Barbuda, and Saint Kitts and Nevis. I bet they all celebrate your birthday on different days too! Does that mean 16 birthday cakes? For the rest of you welcome to our latest reading guide.
I just ate a whole bunch of lobster Jeff and I picked up at the airport that his parents had flown in from Prince Edward Island for my parents (30 lbs worth), so I am too full to come up with much to say as an intro to the following lovely photos of a completely renovated and modernized country home photographed by Stuart McIntyre and styled by the crazy-talented Katrine Martensen-Larsen. This place ain’t too country now! It’s eclectic and I’m loving all the white walls.
