Design Crew

Got a problem? Need some help? Just standing there shaking your head? Don’t know what to do? You’re not alone. Send us a link to photos of your design quandary and let the Desire to Inspire design crew help you …. that’s you lot… the readers! This week’s problem comes from Christa. (And I must say what a lovely home you have Christa!)

I have a design dilemma and was wondering if you would mind asking your savvy readers their opinion on what color to use for refinishing my kitchen cabinets? Stain or paint, and what color? The wood is not in good shape as you can see from the detail photo, so I need to clean them up and I can’t really leave them unstained because I have to disguise the chips. The wood is Honduras mahogany.

I could stain them a darker semi-solid, or paint. New stainless dishwasher and fridge are on their way, and I would like to get the cabinets freshened up at the same time. Right now the floors are natural red oak, the fir ceilings are stained Cabot Sandstone (taupe) and the fir beams are Cabot Cordovan (chocolate with violet/taupe tone). Thoughts? I’m open to ideas.

TGIF! I thought in honour of the end of the work week I’d treat you all to a visual feast by super talented photographer Caroline Arber. Her photos appear effortless…and natural…and calming. Just what I need. (It’s been a long week).

New from Mim

Clean lined and modern. Fresh and young. Stylish but not precious. Wonderful new Australian homes by Mim Design. One a light and bright family home. The other a more brooding and sophisticated space. Sexy. Definitely not stuffy. (I’m seriously enamoured of the second bathroom. Elegant and serene.)

I want to work here!!!

Can you imagine going to work every day and in between tasks being able to get a tattoo, get in some target practice at a shooting range, hang out in a tree house, slide down a fireman’s pole, have a milkshake snack at a canteen…all without leaving the office?!?! Yes, that is the insane workplace of Missing Link, corporate presentation designers based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Makes my drab, mismatched office with busted, dirty chairs (and everyone thinks the federal government wastes money – not on furniture they don’t!) look even worse. We can’t even get coffee without having to trudge across the street in snow… (more details via VISI)
