Eclectic in Notting Hill

Posted on Wed, 11 Jul 2012 by KiM

I recently got my hands on another property from London estate agents Domus Nova, this one is eclectic and modern and gorgeous. It’s a 5 bedroom, 5 story home in Notting Hill that was refurbished by De Matos Ryan Architects and the interior was designed by Carden Cunietti. The clients are North American; Carden Cunietti were asked to help design their large family house using elements of mid-century furniture and modern elements. Take a look at the lower ground floor which best typifies this by the concrete floors and selection of pieces using designs by Charlotte Perriand. In terms of the architecture, De Matos Ryan added a double height void which links the upper and lower ground living spaces. The house opens up to the garden, where a cast concrete counter blurs the boundary between the indoor and outdoor spaces. I love the funky vibe of this home – very cool furnishings and I am always a fan of lots of graphic artwork and piles of books.

Gray Organschi

The firm of Gray Organschi Architecture is based in New Haven, Connecticut has a portfolio that is total eye candy and such a wide variety of randomness. They’ve designed a footbridge, a storage barn, a firehouse converted into a music studio, a converted church, garden pavillions (VERY cool; see last three photos of this post) and many more. Here are some of my favourite of their residential work.

The natural (brown) collection

Posted on Wed, 11 Jul 2012 by midcenturyjo

I’m having a design crisis. I’m finding myself drawn to brown. Not just brown but neutrals, no… naturals, maybe wood… and stone… maybe brick. Grass and feathers and gnarly old branches next to turned bowls of eggs and seed pods. It’s clutter and collections and brown…. brown… natural… oh and copper and brass and antiques and hemp and sisal and hand made furniture and back to brown. It’s driving me crazy but I can’t help it. I found this home in the countryside just outside Berrima in New South Wales on my regular real estate stalking and I should be running screaming shouting “no”, “no”, “no” but… I’m kind of hooked. It bothers me but perhaps it shouldn’t. Link here while it lasts.

Matthew Hranek

Matthew Hranek gets people. He gets the spaces they live in and the lives they lead. He gets it. Then he captures it through the lens of his camera. Homes are lived in. Homes are the people that live in them. Homes live. Just like these three homes from his portfolio via his rep’s site.

Jordan Carlyle – more goodies

Here are more goodies care of Jordan Carlyle that are sure to please if post #1 got you all hot and bothered. This first set of photos are I believe from Jordan’s old apartment. LOVE the artwork, despite it being a serious boob-fest, and the sophisticated vibe. Following that is an apartment on West 21st St. that is a little less glam but has Jordan’s signature HOT style.
