The architect’s home 1

Posted on Wed, 4 Jul 2012 by midcenturyjo

I’m fascinated by the spaces that architects call home, by the designs they create for themselves. Today I am posting the homes of the principles of Italian architectural studio b-arch. This is the Florentine home of Alessandro Capellaro. 300 old ballot boxes were used to delineate space, provide storage and formed the basis of furniture pieces inside an old carpenter’s workshop. Capellaro’s home explores the nature between the historic and the contemporary, between the empty and the filled and between the new and the re-used. It is a story of what has gone before, what can be re-imagined taking on a new life and what is necessary for the present. It is downright cool.

Rut Karadottir is an interior designer based in Iceland who studied and spent some time working for an architecture firm in Italy before opening her own design studio in ’97. I love her work, a mix of modern and Scandinavian mixed with rustic elements. My favourite combination. 🙂

Mikkel Vang encore

It’s the light, I think. soft, syrupy, seductive light. The rooms as retreat. Retreat from the world, the harsh light, the overwhelming “outside”. It’s about haven and home and wishes and dreams. Fantasy and fact. Too much? What about this…. it’s all about a beautiful picture. Time to take another look at the portfolio of Mikkel Vang, world traveller and dream weaver.

Girly girl

A tutti-fruitti confection of spritzy pastels, pattern riot and frills and frou frou. Girly girl to the max and boho to boot. Want a getaway that takes you beyond your comfort zone or need a break where everything is maxed to OTT pretty just the way you secretly fantasised? Either way this place is pure saccharine sexy. St Charles Square, another property through onefinestay.
