Modern Hamptons

Posted on Tue, 15 Dec 2015 by midcenturyjo

Behind the shingles is this a typical Hamptons holiday home? Not quite. New York-based Axis Mundi‘s interiors for this Sagaponack shingle cottage, designed by architect Blaze Makoid, eschew the linen, wicker and crayfish pot cliché, instead embracing a modern beach house, sleek, clean lined, bright and sunny just like the days spent by the ocean. A modern perspective.

A villa by Sandra Benhamou

Posted on Mon, 14 Dec 2015 by KiM

Last month I shared a Paris apartment by designer Sandra Benhamou. I thought I would share another because she is the queen of quirky and I love unexpected decor. And after seeing this villa I may now also call her the queen of wallpaper (there’s at least 8).

Monday’s pets on furniture

If you would like to participate in the Monday’s pets on furniture series please send photos, your name, location and a brief description to kim[@]desiretoinspire[.]net. Thanks!

this is my one eye cat, her name is street (she was found at the streets) and now she is a fancy girl and loves a designer chair!
– Marcos (Brazil)

Here is my cat Whiskey lying on our bookshelf and squished in between the lamp and sculpture, and in front of one of my art pieces.  He loves to be right in the middle of everything all the time and seems to have no idea of his size.

Katniss presides over Otis the Pig: She showed up while my home was under renovations and decided I would be her human. I never really liked cats, but I live to serve Her Majesty’s every need.
– Carmen (South Carolina)

My best bud Jock Belyeu, cairn terrier, on his favorite spot in the living room.
– Michelle (Yukon, Oklahoma)

I took this photo yesterday morning. It is amazing to see former feral Bernie be so comfortable that I can go right up to him and snap a bunch of photos (I got much closer after this one) and he could not care less. He is in a corner of the dining room snoozing on my Plycraft chair that I unfortunately feel the need to cover with a faux sheepskin because the cats take over all of my lounge chairs. And a Daff Design vintage radio converted into a Bluetooth speaker is to the right, used every night at dinner time so hubby and I don’t have to listen to each other chew. 🙂

double g double take part 2

It may have a small footprint but it’s big on style. I’m still lost in double g‘s portfolio. Abesses 3 is a one bedroom apartment with to die for oak beams and we won’t mention the view. My Parisian daydreams now have a home base. Yes in my dreams I’d live here.

double g double take part 1

Why has it taken me years to revisit the portfolio of Parisian architects Flora de Gastines & Anne Geistdoerfer of double g? It’s time to redress my omission. I have fallen for their Saint George 3 apartment. Yes the clients have an amazing art collection. Yes the building has impressive bones. But yes there is something so chic, so sophisticated, so effortless, so French about this home.
