Garden goals

Posted on Tue, 5 Feb 2019 by midcenturyjo

You know I only show you the garden posts because I’m looking for inspiration myself. Good. We’ve got that clear 🙂 I’m all in a hot tizz over this garden in Palos Verdes, California. Completed in 2000 by San Francisco based landscape architectural practice SURFACEDESIGN INC. it is a masterclass in low maintenance, drought resistant planting and dramatic yet simple hard landscaping. Garden goals I do believe.

Photography by Marion Brenner

It’s how you feel in a space that is important to Sydney-based interior architecture practice Richards Stanisch. and in that case I’d feel fabulous in this moody Darlinghurst house. I love the play of the white against the navy, how the rich cognac leather grounds and warms, how “the new design is a subtle evolution/development of the building’s original character without sacrificing the classic charming elements.”

A beach home in Cap Ferret

Posted on Mon, 4 Feb 2019 by KiM

We’re up to our eyeballs in snow here in Ottawa, and the -30ish temps are getting really old and wearing me out. I’m constantly dreaming of warmer climates and sunshine so it seems fitting I share this beautiful beachy home in Cap Ferret, France with you. It belongs to decorator Sylvie Langaud (Paule-M) and her husband and is where I long to be right about now.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 4 Feb 2019 by KiM

If you would like to participate in the Monday’s pets on furniture series please send photos, your name, location and a brief description to kim[at]desiretoinspire[dot]net, or hashtag your photos on Instagram with #DTIpetsonfurniture. Thanks!

Enclosed two photos of my cat, Gimmy, who was a stray and now lives in my home. One picture shows how he loves to take a nap on the hand maid cushion.  The carpet is from the 70s.  The pictures on the wall were from old books that were framed.  The cushions on the sofa are hand made.  On the shelf, old ceramics collection. The second picture, Gimmy enjoying lazing on the porch, amongst the shrubbery.

Last I wrote to you, we had two rescue dogs.  Since that time, I have become very involved in rescue and am so happy to be a part of saving dogs from both California and Mexico!  Anyway, we now have FIVE of our own and today I took the photo I am enclosing, with one guy missing.

Balto, and Bruji loves winter
– Eva (Meira, Lugo, Spain)

And one from me I took quickly on my iPhone Saturday morning. Semi-feral Frankie making himself at home on my favourite pillow (that is covered with a small sheepskin to keep the cats from destroying it).

I've read a few blog posts and IG posts of lots of people who are getting sick of Instagram's finicky ways. Images we think are going to do well tank, engagement is down, most of the people who follow you never see your posts and the anxiety that's caused by trying to somehow 'beat' the algorithm never work – or at least they don't for long. I think we're all tired of it. I debated whether to put this picture up on my feed – I like it. Of course I do. It's my cat. But I doubted myself – people like full room shots (of which I have very few which are currently 'Instagram-worthy'), they don't always love cats, they follow me for interiors, they will unfollow me if they see anything slightly different to what I normally post. But ya know what? Screw it. I'm posting this picture anyway. It's my feed, I like it, Imma gonna do what I want and the Instagram Gods can suck it. In fact, my expression towards IG's stupid algorithm is exactly what Meisha's face is doing right now. So perhaps it does fit my feed better than I think. . . . . #swoonworthy #bedroom #bedroomdesign #bengalsofinstagram #bengalcat #bedroominspo #bedroomgoals #bohoglam #glamourous #interiordesign #interiordesignideas #designsponge #interiorboom #styleithappy #livefabulousandfearless #dtipetsonfurniture #luxuryinteriorsonabudget #howyouhome #suyhome #ihavethisthingwithpink #abmlifeiscolorful #eclecticdecor

Shift over Chester! 🐶 After another flying visit to London this is where you’ll find me tonight, make up off, pj’s on! Thank you so much to @westelmuk for a beautiful Friendsgiving feast and @tala for showing us around your fabulous studio last night. Their commitment to the planet is so inspiring. They’re currently working on a range of products which includes a floor lamp and pendant light made from recycled Heineken bottles. To date they have planted 40,000 trees and they were out planting more today which was their way of giving back to the planet rather than decreasing their prices 🙌🏼 Find out more over on their stories and head to my stories for photos from the dinner last night which includes the studio tour. . . . #friendsgiving #friendsgivingdinner #cosyinterior #cosyhome #gallerywall #pocketofmyhome #scandiinspo #bundleberry #madedotcom #cockapoosofinstagram #interior444 #interior4all #interior4inspo #myhometoinspire #inspiremehomedecor #apartmenttherapy #livingroomdecor #sittingroom #limepaint #rustichomedecor #modernrustic #actualinstagramhomes #mynordicroom #myinterior #savetheplanet #powerofnature

Day 11 of #myhousethismonth, hero. Going to keep it lighthearted and say this little dude, after the week he's had. He's adapted to life in a big pink cone, has let us put drops in his ear, and clean his foot all week, and has generally soldiered on with his little waggy tail, despite it all being a bit shit. Love you Winston! . . #myhomevibe #mygorgeousgaff #walltowallstyle #luxuryinteriorsonabudget #colourmyhome #myeclecticmix #myspaceanddecor #finditstyleit #styleithappy #sassyhomestyle #apartmenttherapy #sahstylists #rockininteriors #myinteriorstyletoday #interiorsnapshot #myinteriorvibe #mycreativeinterior #myhomeforhp #interiormilk #pocketofmyhome #cornerofmyhome #howivintage #myvintageabode #thisiswhyihavetothriftshopeveryday #brightboldhome #stopandstaredecor #aadogs #dtipetsonfurniture

Have you entered the A’ Design Award and Competition yet? Register your design here. The deadline for entries is fast approaching and now is the time to submit your best work. With over 100 categories the A’ Design Award and Competition is the worlds’ largest design competition. But it is not just an award. It is an indicator of quality and perfection in design, recognized worldwide, bringing your design front and centre before design companies and professionals.

From the Good Industrial Design Award to the Good Architecture Design Award. The Good Product Design Award to the Good Communication Design Award. The Good Service Design Award to the Good Fashion Design Award and so many more. (You can find all the design categories here.) With the competition highlighting, advertising & advocating good design, taking part will provide recognition, publicity and international peer review.

Entries will be judged by an international jury panel of scholars, professionals and media members. Unlike other awards the competition follows a peer-review process with anonymous voting and evaluation of all entries. And the benefits to the winners are inspiring! The trophy, of course, an invitation to the gala night, a certificate of quality, inclusion in the prestigious A’ Design Award and Competition exhibition and the yearly ResultBook but even more importantly press, PR, introduction to industry professionals and companies and international exposure. The fame, the prestige, the recognition and so much more.

You can find out more about the A’ Design Award and Competition here and register here. But hurry as the deadline for submissions is February 28. Results will be announced here on the blog (and worldwide) on April 15.

To get you inspired to enter here are some past winners!
