A moody Swedish apartment

Posted on Fri, 17 Sep 2021 by midcenturyjo

Think Scandinavian meets wabi-sabi. Natural, pared-back, well-considered, neutral, minimalist without being stark, earthy yet luxurious, dramatic yet grounded. A marriage of opposites that together are timeless. Kaptensgatan I, an apartment in Stockholm by interior design studio Perspective.

An art collector’s Paris flat

Posted on Thu, 16 Sep 2021 by KiM

A bit more contemporary than the home I shared on Sunday by Luis Laplace, this is the renovated Paris apartment of model Adriana Abascal. She is quite obviously a serious art collector and her 5 bedroom apartment in a Haussmann-era building in the 16th arrondissement with views of the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe is the perfect backdrop. (I am saddened to learn Luis stripped out ornate paneling and replacing busy-looking moldings and baseboards that I assume were original to the 19th century apartment but did keep the original herringbone parquet flooring and marble fireplace mantels.) More bold colour from Anthony George

I could not love this more, another gem that is in classic Anthony George style. Uniue colour combinations, fun fabrics, a bit of a tribal vibe, and a cute pup to boot.

Joie de vivre

She defines her style as “chic mix and match”. It’s fresh and fabulous, bright and colourful and in the case of this Normandy home elegant yet quirky, at times formal but always fun. Mainneville residence by Paris-based architectural designer Laura Gonzalez.

Modern in Madrid

Posted on Wed, 15 Sep 2021 by midcenturyjo

The bones may be old but the look is modern. This reworking of a Madrid apartment (with impressive roof terrace reached by the sculptural sweep of a spiral staircase) by interior architect Inés Benavides preserves all the best features of old apartment while ringing in the new. Walls are removed, a modern kitchen is open plan to the living and dining while bright colour and pattern packs a punch.
