Located in the historic Charlestown neighborhood, our Boston townhouse project included full-scale renovation management, comprehensive finish selection, furnishings and art selection. Built in 1875, the color palette throughout the residence references the Victorian-era (particularly the dusty mauve living room) modernized with unexpected accent colors that captured both the client’s artful taste, and timeless New England roots.
Not sure which I prefer more – the dusty mauve or the green in the kitchen (Farrow & Ball’s Breakfast Room Green). Such pretty colours! Designed by Jessica Stambaugh of JS Interiors. Photos: Sian Richards.

Kooky class

“As far as 2-bedroom new builds go, this property packs a punch. Studio Doherty were brought on board to reimagine and design the interiors, working alongside Enth Degree Architects and their architectural framework, which reflected our client’s passion for mid-century architecture (think 1950’s Palm Springs). Our challenge was to create a dynamic, inviting, unique and kooky home that referenced, rather than imitated touchstones of mid-century design.”

From the electric blue spiral staircase to the DTILE kitchen, from the carefully curated mix of vintage and new furniture (hello 13 m long conversation pit) and the window into the pool this house by Melbourne-based Studio Doherty is stylish and fun, perfect for entertaining all your family and friends.

Meadow magic

“A modern barn compound that rose out of a once vacant lot, situated amongst a meadow and collections of mature trees, as if it had always been in Sagaponack. The program called for an organically maintained landscape, with a wildflower abundant show meadow to the south, and a more wild matrix of tall grasses to mix in with the carefully sourced and placed trees. As the landscape has matured, Summerhill has been tasked with cultivating the many native species that have self sown into the original planting, while honoring the original design aesthetic that called for intense bursts of color in the Summer.”

I can hear the bees buzzing through my computer screen. Meadow magic from the portfolio of Summerhill Landscapes. (Landscape architect Rees Roberts + Partners and house by Steven Harris Architects.)

A midcentury modern home done sooo right

A remodel of a California Mid Century home, lovingly architected and built by Meghan’s grandfather, Donald Park, in 1950. As an homage to the architecture, we drew upon his original design details for inspiration and playfully updated the finish palate to give the home a warm but revived sensibility. For the furnishings, we referenced 60’s Ranch House decor, which allowed us to introduce traditional fabrics and classical silhouettes into the post and beam setting.
I love midcentury architecture but often wonder what direction I would take with the décor if I owned a home in this style. Though I may love MCM architecture, I don’t necessarily want the décor to be so typical of the period. This, my friends, is exactly how it should be done. Meghan Eisenberg did her family proud. Vibrant elegance

Who says you can’t have it all? A mix of styles is always so intriguing to me how designers manage to pull it off in a cohesive way. Patrick Mele worked it out in this Colonial home with a quirky blend of traditional antiques and some mid-century pieces, and a bit of an Asian flair, along with a British twist. There’s alot going on and each space is more fabulous than the next.
