Otthon

My sister recently sent me the link to a Hungarian magazine called Otthon. I was excited to find a slew of cool photos on their website. Here are some that really caught my eye. (The first one = SO ADORABLE!).

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 19 Apr 2010 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!)

Greetings from the Caribbean! Pikey is primarily an outdoor island cat but when the garden needs sprayed and she is forced to spend the day indoors, this is how she celebrates.  Another one of her mid yawn on one of her favorite outdoor chairs.

My Chihuahua Princeton stretching out on our homemade short-legged table. He loves to jump up there and drink my coffee every morning when I step out of the room!

My new little kitten, Roxie, loves to sniff all the smells in my apartment building’s tiny backyard as she perches on this rustic cafe chair–an indulgent impulse purchase I made one Saturday morning last summer as I wandered through the downtown of a nearby town and noticed a “going out of business sale” sign in the window of one of my favorite little home decor shops.”

In honour of you being featured in a Singapore magazine, here’s 4-month old Mini Schnauzer Bacon posing in our design showroom in Singapore. Second picture is of him lazing at home on a newly upholstered cube stool with fabric from Ikea.

Here we have Archibald Jebidiah enjoying the sunshine on his Virginia estate.  He’s thinking “Gosh it’s good to live in Dixie!

Hi, I’m Nebojsa and this is my cat Katja. She simply loves to sleep under this cool lamp which is actually her ‘solarium’. 🙂

I was visiting my brother in San Diego last week, when an odd scrabbling sound awoke me early in the morning. I went to see what it was and found Lil Joe standing on a desktop. ‘Ummm,’ I said to Joe, ‘wait right here, I’m gonna get my camera.’ He did, I did, and this is the shot (I do love the fabric my sister-in-law, Holly used on the desk chair). When my brother came down that morning I told him Lil Joe had been on the table. ‘Nuh uh,’ he grunted. I merely turned on the camera and showed him.

Here’s our old boy, Moby, and his best friend, Enzo.

Rooney, our English Bulldog, playing mountain goat on top of our new end table.

I have a few submissions of my late, great rabbit Mr. T. (Unfortunately, he was black, so very hard to get good pictures of. This is why I’m giving you several, in case one is clear enough for your standards. But he had no qualms about hopping up on my mid-century teak credenza, which I always found hilarious. He passed away last October.)

These are my two cats, Pixie and Milo (sister and brother) they are just over a year and like to sleep on top of my bookcase in the family room.
Lisa
Coco is a very hyper-active dog and likes to run around the house most of the time, but when it is time to relax he likes to hide in between all the pillows on my futon.  Sometimes its hard for me to spot him! LOL
– Jeane
This is Mugsie laying on our couch – he will only sit perched on the top of couch and chair cushions, causing our furniture to get some lovely indentations. But it’s worth it to see how comfortable and adorable he is!

To end off the work week, how about a little bit ‘o contemporary architecture by New York firm Audrey Matlock Architect. OMG check out all the windows! (I’m not sure how I’d feel sleeping in a bedroom with floor to ceiling windows like photo #2…)

Reader dilemma

Posted on Fri, 16 Apr 2010 by KiM

Angela sent us an email with a dilemma that I’m hoping you all can help her with: “I have recently purchased a small red brick home that was built in 1930 – I love it and cannot wait to get my hands on it. Currently the house is red brick with a heinous John Deere Green trim that I am dying to paint but I have yet to stumble across some really great inspiration or references. It has natural shingles so there are technically three fields of area that need color, red brick being the majority. I love the idea of something slightly eccentric but still classy – like the grey house with the lime green door. I would appreciate if you could point me in the right direction.” Having never had the opportunity to be able to paint the exterior of a house, I am sort of at a loss as to suggestions for Angela, which is why I thought I’d open it up to all of you. Her house is absolutely ADORABLE as you’ll see below, so getting rid of the awful green will make a huge difference and make her home even more fantastic with great curb appeal. Leave your ideas in the comments!
