Sharing some eye candy this afternoon from Washington, D.C. based designer Darryl Carter. If you think furnishings on the traditional side aren’t really your thing, think again once you get to the end of this post. Dark pieces and artwork against white/cream walls is dramatic and elegant and gives a modern edge to classic style. YUM!

I have been a fan of Irish architecture and design firm Kingston Lafferty Design for a few years now and they never disappoint. They mix antiques with modern and mid-century classics like no one’s business. And they are bolder with colour than most designers. And do it sooooo well. This post is 100% proof of this.

Now THIS is where I would want to spend my summer. This island retreat by Seattle design firm Hoedemaker Pfeiffer is all kinds of rustic, while adding a bit of whimsy with an unconventional bedroom set-up. This project shows what happens when you focus on your strengths, defy convention, and take a few risks. The demolition of half the house made room for a camp-like setting of grand indoor spaces for gathering with great outdoor spaces for taking the sun and views, or gathering around the fire. Bedrooms were replaced by a collection of wall tents that lose nothing in luxury and gain everything in the connection to the great outdoors.

Ines Mazzotta of Kelly Hopter Interiors is a designer based in Toronto whose aesthetic I instantly fell in love with. Glamorous, Parisian chic and dramatic. Many of these photos, including the first 6, are of her 140 year old home she has transformed into an absolute gem for her family.

Me and trends do not get along. AT ALL. Unique interiors are where it’s at and this home in London is about as unique as it gets. I mean, LOOK AT THE KITCHEN CABINETS! Italian designer Martino Gamper and New Zealand artist Francis Upritchard live here, and have taken uniqueness to the next level with bold colours, lots of art and funky furniture. A total distraction from the ordinary, detail-lacking architecture. Via Architectural Digest Spain, photos by Pablo Zamora.
