Ashli Mizell encore

New work from  Philadelphia based interior designer Ashli Mizell. I love the rustic look of the tiles against the marble and cabinets. It’s rough vs smooth, modern trad with a twist of ethnic. A clash of tiles reminiscent of the pattern riots of the riad plays with the calm of the white while smoky hues play with earthy oranges. A hint of Morocco. It’s the layering that comes through in Ashli’s designs. Pattern on pattern, texture on texture. Rustic on the modern. (Original post on Ashli Mizell here.)

Trading it in for paradise

Posted on Tue, 7 Feb 2012 by midcenturyjo

A land of the alternative, a land of the wealthy, a land of the stylish, a land of community, a land of contradictions. An almost mythical land. The green rolling hills that climb above the white beaches of Australia’s most easterly point. Byron Bay and its hinterland. Paradise. And where better to drink in the nectar of the slightly alternative style gods than bryon view farm home of strangetrader owners Robert Schwamberg and Andrea Duff. Paradise in a weatherboard cottage available to rent. Feel like trading it all in for paradise?

Glass Loggia House

Posted on Mon, 6 Feb 2012 by midcenturyjo

An old unsympathetic lean-to veranda is torn down and a glass and steel loggia and extension are built to blur the line between inside and out, to provide light and to frame views of the sky. A whimsical stainless steel mesh double height curtain skims across the back of the house providing privacy and shade. A quirky magical place. A modern twist to a High Victorian style house in Sydney. The Glass Loggia House by Allen Jack + Cottier .

Rainbow

Beautiful, beautiful Blenko glass in all colours of the rainbow. Beautiful, beautiful photograph by Keith Scott Morton. Just wish the clown would go away. Just saying you know. Coulrophobia. If this was in a magazine I could fold the page just so and make it disappear.
