Stalking summer

Posted on Thu, 19 Sep 2013 by midcenturyjo

I can smell summer. I can smell the salt in the air, the smoke from distant bush fires on the breeze. I can smell freshly caught fish on barbecues and sunscreen. I can hear waves softly lapping, gum leaves on gum trees dancing, the kids next door squealing in the pool and the soft putt putt putt of a dingy on the way out to a sail boat. I really can when I dream about this home I found real estate stalking. Palm Beach, Sydney on the Pittwater side. I could never afford it but I can dream and sniff the salt in the air. Link here while it lasts.

She gets it

She just gets it. We’ve featured Australian photographer Armelle Habib many times on the blog and her work is always fresh and always inspiring. Candid and real, her images of amazing homes are amazing in themselves. There is no fight, no conflict, no awkward questions about whether it’s the great room or the great photographer. It’s both because this photographer gives us as good as she gets. Genius and that’s why her work is now being seen around the world. She works with the best, photographs the best and produces the best that appear in the best magazines. OK enough from the peanut gallery here. Enjoy!

Inside Out

The October issue of Inside Out hits the newsstands on Thursday and once again we have a little something something to whet your appetite. An amuse-bouche. A sneak peek. Managing editor Lee Tran Lam writes “… another great story from the gold-star team of stylist Julia Green and photographer Armelle Habib. This time, they’ve focused on a unique home that has been transformed from its former life as a worker’s cottage (it was actually transported from the Snowy River area to Barwon Heads in Victoria, back in the 1950s). It’s a small space, but the architects – Kate Fitzpatrick and Ben Stibbard of Auhus have done lots of clever things to the site. The houndstooth splashback in the kitchen is an especially lovely detail.” Yes please! Love the houndstooth, the retro vibe, the colourful rugs, love it all.

Aussie readers can pick up their copy Thursday. Don’t fret if you aren’t in Australia though because you can read along on ZinioGoogle Play and the Apple Newsstand. I’ve been reading for a couple of months on Zinio and I love it. OK I love the feel and heft of the real magazine in my hands but the online mag is just so convenient. Looks like I’ll be reading both!

Inblum

A blank canvas, an empty page to be written on with life’s experiences and daily detritus. A place on which to put one’s stamp. Pure and puritan. Asymmetrical and multidimensional. Open plan and yet connected. Modern living in the Old Town and New Town, Vilnius by Lithuanian design firm Inblum.

Stalking a little deco darling

Posted on Tue, 17 Sep 2013 by midcenturyjo

I’m stalking an apartment in Rose Bay, Sydney today. A small but delightfully formed art deco home. From moments of drama to serene spaces it certainly punches above its weight. I’d love to see more. I guess that’s the way the owner and agent want me to feel. Time for a viewing? Link here while it lasts.
