I found this this one-bedroom Moscow apartment on The Village and fell in love. The owners are clearly designers/decorators as it is SO well executed. This is a perfect example of how to use dark colours and large-scale items in a small space for high impact but without making it feel cramped. Several pieces are from Ikea (including the pendants over the dining table with a personal touch of copper leaf on the underside) and many from the couple’s travels. I adore everything – especially the large paned mirrors on either side of the mantel, the massive table lamps that delineate the living from dining spaces, the gorgeous blue bedroom walls, and the Venetian mirror mounted on old fence boards.

Let me start by saying it has been a long time since we blogged anything this wacky and eclectic. It is a completely renovated 3 story apartment created by Parisian interior architect and designer Carlos Pujol. It is oozing with creativity and whimsy, from the eyeglasses chandelier, to the paint chip staircase, the mass of pendants in the kitchen and pinups in the bathroom. This is definitively not taking interior design too seriously. 🙂

I always find myself drawn to art deco apartments when I am scrolling through real estate listings. I love a building with good bones, architectural features kept intact, joyfully brought into the present but not hacked apart and modernised until there is no personality left. I love  the streamlined features of art deco homes mixed modern furniture. I love this groundfloor two bedder. Sunny and new with history and style. Need an apartmenbt in Bondi? Polish interior designer Lucyna Kołodziejska (whose work we have featured here and here) emailed us with yet another fabulous dwelling she has completed. This flat is in Gdynia, it is quite small – one bedroom, living room with small kitchen and bathroom with shower. It is designed for rent so the materials that I used are strong 🙂 – solid oak wood in kitchen, hard floors, spain textile on sofa. But of course they should be elegant and nice designs so i used a very nice lamp in the dining – is it rubber so can’t be broken, strong paints and wallpapers by scandinavian Flugger and other scandinavian company (Sandberg). It is maybe because this flat is a little bit scandinavian that a man from Sweden and his girlfriend from Poland are renting it now. I really like the masculine vibe of this apartment – Lucyna was smart with this one. She’s got typically masculine colours (blues, browns and black) and plaids/checks, and then throws in the feminine touch of some cute bird wallpaper. Perfect for a rental as it will appeal to everyone. It’s tiny but it works!

A sophisticated apartment in Sydney. An apartment with a view to die for. But what do you do when the view is so iconic, so overwhelming and just so “there”? Don’t fight it, don’t compete with it, don’t ignore it. Celebrate it. A retrained palette, luxurious but understated finishes. White walls that bounce the bright Australian light deep into the apartment and extend the sense of space. Dark floors ground, provide a solid base for this aerie perched as it is above the Sydney harbour between bridge and opera house. Causal elegant, the finer things but no posturing, no pretense. Definitely a trophy apartment but also very much a home. Interior design by Sarah Davidson.
