Cheerful and cheeky in Florida

Posted on Thu, 23 Mar 2023 by midcenturyjo

“Discovered through Instagram, we were tasked by our clients to design a home to be the antithesis of a traditional northeast home (where they were moving from). The couple chose to refresh the home, originally built in 1955, as a way to breathe new life—and sneak an extra bedroom—into their space. When it came to the initial mood board, capturing a sense of cheerfulness and familiarity through the use of color was top of mind. With one heading a public art organization, integration of artful interiors and color was paramount. We designed the home with outspoken wallpaper selections and color combos that celebrate life.”

Definitely packing a punch with a riot of colour and bold pattern clash this home in Coral Gables, Florida is by Miami-based design firm Bunsa Studio.

A sophisticated Belgian apartment

It’s like I woke up from a dream in my dream apartment. This home in Ixelles, Belgium is a sophisticated exploration of existing and new with a stand-out art collection and an enviable collection of furniture. Architect designer Bernard Dubois was a photographer in a previous life and it tells in the composition, light and colour of this chic home.

Maison Numéro 20

Located opposite the Visconti wood, a bucolic hidden garden of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Maison Numéro 20 benefits from the proximity of the Capital’s most prestigious publishers, design showrooms, antique shops and art galleries. Thanks to this endless target market of discoveries, it imposes a theatrical and eclectic style, which associates the joy of astonishment with its very personal vision of refinement and elegance. The interplay of materials accentuates the singular atmosphere of its achievements. Juggling brilliantly and with style between metals, lacquers and leathers, velvets and varnished woods, Maison Numéro 20 mixes contemporary exuberance with the elegance of classical proportions.
Absolutely beautiful modern spaces with elegant Parisian vibes by the talented Oscar Lucien Ono.

The interiors of this home express our clients’ sense of refinement, joy and restraint. The home is punctuated by idiosyncratic combinations of nuanced color, luminous finishes and earthy materials. The layering of an extensive architectural and decorative materials palette yields depth and interest to the rooms while imparting a common thread of honesty, artistry and nonchalant luxury.

When space is at a premium in places like Paris, I love seeing how designers and architects use their creativity to maximize space and create storage. This Paris apartment isn’t very small (124 m²) but the amount of storage in each room makes me very envious (having lived in old homes with either no closets or tiny ones for many years). Also love the all white backdrop for the fun pops of colour and the black corridor that adds some serious drama. Designed by l’Agence June. (Photos: BCDF studio)
