Georgian modern

Posted on Thu, 25 Feb 2021 by midcenturyjo

“Our approach was to design each interior space with crisp, yet sparing architectural embellishments, punctuated by layers of unexpected surface materials and a museum-quality art collection … We wanted it to feel ornate, but also feel light and classical, with a hyper-modern edge.”

Designer Dylan Farrell named the project Georgian Modern. I call it a fabulous mix of different styles and eras with a museum-quality art collection.

A flat in Madrid where art steals the show

A mid mid-century modern and a bit traditional. Isabel López-Quesada mixing things up once again in this latest project of hers. A flat in Madrid with lots of personality where art takes centre stage and colour accents are aplenty.

In balance

This beautiful home in the suburbs of Madrid was designed by Isabel López-Quesada. A neutral palette, an eclectic blend of furnishings with a fairly strong lean towards mid-century and an all-around timeless vibe makes this a winner.

I hope to one day find myself with a home that needs serious renovations, where I make decisions on what original details should stay and mix it with clean lines of modern architecture. This apartment in the Literary Quarter of Madrid has beautiful textured walls and beams maintained from the original 1900 structure and it really makes the space that much more unique and intriguing. Collector House

“The Collector House feels wonderfully relaxed. Sunlight streams in from the central skylight and fills the rooms. The view of the harbour, framed by jacaranda and eucalypts, and the ferries passing by all contribute to the overall sense of calm. It’s a barefoot house – warm and grounded, with space for loved ones to gather.”

There are touches of humour and art, honest materials and a sense of the Aussie vernacular. There are private spaces and places to come together. And then there’s the view. Collector House by Sydney-based interior designers Arent & Pyke.
