Designer’s own

Interior designer Augusta Hoffman‘s chic New York apartment blends modern aesthetics and timeless elegance. Sleek lines and luxurious textures create an inviting and opulent atmosphere. Neutral tones dominate the palette in the living room allowing natural light to bounce about the apartment while deep greens and tobacco tones are a bold choice for other rooms. Serene, sophisticated and welcoming.

Highland minimalism

“Highland House is a contemporary, new-build holiday home in the Highlands of Scotland, designed with Tektonika Architects. The interior design roots the building in its setting, while also offering protection from it – this is a place of extreme weather and beautiful vistas of a loch.

Design details reflect the home’s use as a place to escape, unwind and be at one with nature. Minimalism meets cosiness in a material palette that includes chunky concrete with exposed aggregate, warm Douglas fir wood, handmade zelliges and flattish-toned encaustic tiles, and textiles that are comforting to touch. Everything is built on a palette of green, yellow, navy, pink and brown (the sludgy versions), allowing the rooms to bleed into the land they overlook.”

Harmonious living with nature-inspired interiors. Highland House by Jill Macnair.

I spy antiques, touches of traditional, dashes of mid-century, a hint of contemporary, dark and light, pattern and texture…this is why we love the work of Heidi Woodman so much. Her spaces are always a glorious gallimaufry of greatness.

A remodeled 1935 Tudor Revival in Minnesota

Minneapolis based design firm Studio Day are “preservation focused”. *mic drop*. And hats off to having that mentality in this day and age where soooo many people think you should slap paint on something and call it “modern” or “refinished”. In the case of this remodeled 1935 Tudor Revival home at some point the dark trim had been lightened and Studio Day designed to leave it light, which works to keep the home from being too dark. In the living room the lights had been plastered over but were uncovered and made functional again (that ceiling millwork is FAB!). The blue tile bathroom was maintained – sooo glad to see that because so many colourful bathrooms of that era are destroyed. All in all the character of this home is unmatched and its beauty is 150% worth preserving. Photos: Wing Ho; Styling: Carrie Charest Valentine.

A former B&B becomes a family retreat

Katie’s team was tasked with decorating this layered home, previously a charming bed and breakfast nestled in the West Seattle neighborhood overlooking the serene Puget Sound. Working alongside the homeowner, photographer Deb Achak, color, texture, and pattern come together to highlight and expand on the home’s existing architectural details and historical nods.
I had to share another project by designer Katie LeClercq. Her effortlessly casual and comfortable style whilst embracing original details is 150% blog worthy. Photography: Aaron Leitz
