Dark and light

Posted on Wed, 16 Mar 2022 by midcenturyjo

“There is a common thread in our work – clean lines, chic materiality and details, a mix of vintage and modern sourcing — but the end result is always unique.”

Have you ever fallen head over heels for a room that you have only seen in a couple of pictures? I have. I’m smitten by this dark and sexy living room. Stylish and brooding. Luxe and enveloping. The rest of the house is gorgeous too. Westport by Monica Fried Design.

Seriously

Seriously sexy. Seriously serene. What? Sexy and serene? You can have both you know and this house by Houston-based Wimmel DC is the perfect example. Layers of texture, natural materials, the luxury of bespoke fittings and rooms light filled at times and smudgy and cocooning at others.

Dave is a longtime reader of our blog and recently wrote us to share his absolutely incredible Montréal loft with us, that he had torn down to the studs and completely renovated in 2018. Unfortunately he now has to sell it but wanted to share it with us before he leaves. A bit of info about it: 15ft ceilings, exposed brisk, 2 gas fireplaces, 2+1 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, living space of 1760 sq ft and a mezzanine of 900 sq ft, private roof top terrace 21′ x 34′. Dane not included 😉
WOW!!!! I am totally smitten. This loft has EVERYTHING. Thank you Dave for sharing your home with us!
A few before photos to show you the extent of the work that was done…

In the event you are in the market for the loft of your dreams, here is the listing.

Timeless and with an effortless style this apartment with sweeping views of across Sydney harbour to the Heads is light-filled and lovely. The views are front and centre while the interiors are serene and chic. An easy sophistication, a quiet retreat. Balmoral Beach Apartment by AP Design House.

Modern in the woods

Posted on Thu, 10 Mar 2022 by midcenturyjo

Jamie Ivey of Richmond, Virginia based interior designers Ivey Design Group has taken a neutral new build (albeit with huge windows taking in the expansive views of woodlands and pond) and created a colourful and welcoming contemporary home. Crisp white walls allow pops of colour to delight and draw you into rooms while layering of textures warms what could have been a cold modern house. Think sophisticated yet family friendly, unique and definitely not boring.
