Living vicariously

Posted on Mon, 16 Jan 2023 by midcenturyjo

We all do it especially on blogs like this. We live vicariously, daydreaming about moving into fabulous homes. I sooooooo want to move into this Soho apartment by Jessica Schuster. Of course it’s her own. Sophisticated, eclectic and for me perfect.

Traditional Spanish tiles, mid-century pieces and a riot of colour. Shouldn’t work? Hell yes, it does. Packed with personality and fun San Sebastián-based interior designer Mikel Irastorza respects the traditional Spanish roots of the building then starts layering … and layering … and layering. Fabulous fun!

Loft love

Just when I think my love for lofts has waned BAM! I’m smitten all over again. The space, the ceiling heights, light flooding in and the touch of industrial. In this case, the industrial remnants are juxtaposed with a neoclassical riff. Sophisticated with a touch of urban grit Soho Factory Loft by Jessica Schuster.

The ’70s Rêve

“Intoxicating and serene, the ’70s Rêve is a glam rock riff on the sultry vibes and breezy bliss of bohemian life. Restored and reconceived, this lush estate in Ross, California, exudes a balmy calm with a sexy swagger. Earthy and sumptuous, playfully plush, it teems with the effervescent cool of a YSL muse—both ageless and of the moment.”

If that’s the way Alexis Tompkins and Leann Conquer, the design duo behind San Francisco-based Chroma describe this house then anything I can add is just useless verbiage. Crazy perfect!

I have dreams of living in a house with so much space I don’t even know what to do with it all. What would I do with 29 rooms spread over 10,000 square feet? I think a home that large could be overwhelming but in the case of Jean Stoffer she took up this challenge like a champ and turned this historic Grand Rapids home into something spectacular. There are so many fabulous rooms Jean created in her home I could only narrow it down to 28 photos. There’s even a kitchenette between the master bedroom and bathroom 🙂 (Photos: Stoffer Interiors Photography)
