Sand and surf and stone

Posted on Thu, 7 Oct 2021 by midcenturyjo

Our Beach House at Mermaid represents a refined beach house design with a bold expression of form and materials. From the west orientated urban streetscape the façade responds to privacy and solar concerns by way of sliding timber screens set within white vertical walls and horizontal concrete floor and roof elements in a two storey form. The two storey form boldly cantilevers towards the street over feature stone walls and glass entry. Dense landscaping softens the built form and provides a unique arrival experience. Externally and internally the material palette is a composition of natural materials and textures including stone, concrete and timber set against white surfaces. Internally high ceiling and voids capturing light creates a variety of unique spaces.”

A new coastal design language. Modern, monolithic and strong. Beach House by Gold Coast based BDA Architecture.

What a dream. A lovely traditional home, rambling vines and lush lawns rolling down to the Hudson River. Views from almost every window, old floor boards, overstuffed sofas mixed with antiques and a garden room off the living space. Peaceful, serene luxury. Residence along the Hudson by John B. Murray Architect.

Interior design and art, the two great passions of  Juan Moreno López-Calull of John Brown Projects. This Barcelona apartment with its contemporary clean lines, wonderful light and city views is elevated by the choice of modern sculpture and large art works. It’s the perfect example is big is good, cluttered is a bother.

Glin Castle in Ireland

Posted on Sun, 3 Oct 2021 by KiM

Glin Castle is an incredible 20,000 square foot, 14th century, 18-bedroom, 18-bath Georgian house in Ireland owned by actor Dominic West, his wife Catherine Fitzgerald and 2 of her sisters (having been in their family since it’s creation). They have lovingly restored the castle and used it as a retreat, but now it’s available to book privately. What an absolutely breathtaking piece of history. Palladiana Party

“This home is a story of perfect couplings and the beautiful interplay of individual dynamics. A quietly relaxed husband and a vibrant, out-there wife. A grand 1930s bay-side abode and a contemporary renovation. Honouring the building’s heritage and writing a new chapter.”

From classic details to family fun, old house, new extension and pool house folly. From luxury materials to clean, contemporary lines. The stand out for me? Why those Palladiana Terrazzo Mosaic floors! By Melbourne-based Interior Atelier Sally Caroline.
