A marriage of modern and vintage

Posted on Mon, 4 Nov 2019 by midcenturyjo

This four storey Georgian town house is a wonderful mix of new and old. Think contemporary kitchen with poured concrete floors, flashes of retro orange, moody rooms in the older part of the house, vintage finds and a myriad of house plants. Fun, flirt and fab. Lyndhurst by London-based interior designer and stylist Julia Thompson of Frank Interiors.

I spotted this home on AD Russia and it stopped me in my tracks. Ukrainian architect Sergey Makhno built this home for his family, to showcase his love of Ukranian and Japanese design, and his incredible ceramic collection. Each room is more incredible than the next. I adore this.

Oak Tree House

This modern extension to an Edwardian era house has resulted in something very special. Think contemporary sculpture meets colour blocking, new connections between inside and out and restraint versus drama. The Oak House (named for the mature oak that dominates the site) by Melbourne based Kennedy Nolan.

I wanted to share another project (in case you missed Sunday’s post: here) by NICOLEHOLLIS where modern, edgy glam, with lots of black and brass set the stage again. Set within a classical Russian Hill, San Francisco townhouse, the home’s architecture makes it even more striking.

Simplicity in a modern farmhouse

When it comes to interiors, my taste ranges quite drastically. I love the ornate details in a restored Victorian home, and I also will completely fall in love with very simple, modern architecture. This modern take on a farm house with a Scandinavian vibe is refined, serene and subtly beautiful. By Kaemingk Design.
