Glam with lots of black and brass

Posted on Thu, 28 Mar 2019 by KiM

Shelby Girard (head of design at Havenly) defines her style as Parisian modern – a chic contrast of the minimal, the ornate, and the edgy. I would add glamorous to that list, which is evident in this black, dark blue, and more black home she designed, with lots and lots of brass accents. The dining room light fixture alone speaks volumes of her style. Love it!!! (Photos: Emily Sidoti)

Sunday lounging at an inn

Prince Edward County is an island on the north shore of Lake Ontario. Here you will find a quirky, campy inn called the Drake Devonshire. Multi-disciplinary design studio +tongtong had the task of turning a tired bed and breakfast and original c. 1880 foundry into an 11-room and two-suite contemporary inn. Something a bit more “hip” as all things Drake are (it’s the rural version of Toronto’s Drake Hotel). How sweet would this suite up in the peak of the A frame be?! (Photos: Nikolas Koenig)

Stalking a creative home in Sydney

Posted on Fri, 1 Mar 2019 by midcenturyjo

I’m stalking designer, author and the creative force behind The Society Inc Sybella Court’s Bellevue Hill apartment. It’s all you would imagine it to be. Stylish, quirky at times, full of the treasures collected over time. Covering the top floor of an Art Deco block the home showcases Court’s bespoke detail-orientated products. I’m torn when it comes to my favourite room. I love the bistro feel to the kitchen but I think if I was pushed I’d choose the master bedroom with its private lounge. Link here while it lasts.

It’s how you feel in a space that is important to Sydney-based interior architecture practice Richards Stanisch. and in that case I’d feel fabulous in this moody Darlinghurst house. I love the play of the white against the navy, how the rich cognac leather grounds and warms, how “the new design is a subtle evolution/development of the building’s original character without sacrificing the classic charming elements.”

A beach home in Cap Ferret

Posted on Mon, 4 Feb 2019 by KiM

We’re up to our eyeballs in snow here in Ottawa, and the -30ish temps are getting really old and wearing me out. I’m constantly dreaming of warmer climates and sunshine so it seems fitting I share this beautiful beachy home in Cap Ferret, France with you. It belongs to decorator Sylvie Langaud (Paule-M) and her husband and is where I long to be right about now.
