A playful apartment transformation

Posted on Mon, 28 Aug 2023 by midcenturyjo

GRT Architects transformed an apartment in the historic Onyx Court building in New York’s East Village, redefining its layout while respecting its original character. The kitchen underwent a stunning redesign, relocating diagonally for improved flow and functionality. A semi-open layout was achieved with clever elements like brass-legged cabinets and suspended storage, dividing it from the dining area. A playful mix of textures and colours enhances the kitchen’s appeal while a sculptural island houses electric appliances. The principal suite replaced the former kitchen, emphasizing privacy and elegance. The project included modern upgrades, from windows to air conditioning, seamlessly integrated by the architects.

Yes yes it’s a fabulous kitchen with beautiful stone but it’s the mudroom come landing strip next door that I love the most. Look at the mail slots! Ah snail mail you may be dying out but some designers still appreciate you. Garden District Kitchen by New Orleans-based Logan Killen Interiors.

Situated in a historic Victorian mansion block, this one-bedroom flat boasts stunning vistas of Notting Hill and Kensington. Homeowner and designer Nigel opted to maintain a separate eat-in kitchen and turned to Neptune‘s Suffolk collection to complement the building’s classic aesthetics. A pink and black colour palette is elegant while strategic cabinet choices and lighting solutions amplify the feeling of spaciousness. With a repurposed floor cabinet now a bespoke dresser and an L-shaped seating area under the sash window the kitchen has been transformed into an inviting albeit bijou entertaining haven.
