Camille Hermand Architectures

Posted on Wed, 24 Jul 2013 by midcenturyjo

A sweet little piece of Parisian architectural candy. Ornate touches to the ceilings, old wooden floors and scrolly iron work on the balcony. Beautiful bones juxtaposed with midcentury and modern. Then bam! Colourful riot on the wall. A little pastille of perfection by Camille Hermand Architectures.

The Brit Quirk files

“Do you live here alone?” I yelled back over my shoulder as I fumbled with the door knob. What confronted me was the most outrageous bathroom I think I have ever seen in real life. “Don’t worry”, I mumbled as I counted the tooth brushes on the sink. We’d struck up a casual conversation in a pub round the corner from my cousin’s flat the previous day. As you do. She was a stylist. She had regaled me with tales of her home over a few pints. Did I want to see it? Have a coffee? I wasn’t prepared for this. “I suppose you wouldn’t mind if I moved in?” I asked shaking the water from my hands as I re-entered the kitchen.

An amazing town house close to Camden Town via locations firm Wilde and Watson.

Rugs

Rugs. Love ’em. They add coziness to a room, texture, and are a great way to add texture and pattern (I am REALLY not a fan of a plain, neutral coloured rug – it becomes a focal point of boring). I have several in my home – except they’re all packed away in the basement because rugs and seven cats don’t mix unfortunately. I miss my vintage kilim I used to have under my dining table in the kitchen (seen in this post), but I was ruining it by all the vacuuming. And what is it about cats always insisting on aiming for a rug when they barf? Anyway, I thought I’d do a rug round-up today. Happy Friday!

P.S. Speaking of pets, I just noticed I still have hardly any pets on furniture entries for this coming Monday, so if you want this feature to return please send me photos! (Details here)

Now you’re talking my language

Posted on Thu, 11 Jul 2013 by midcenturyjo

Knock, knock. Helloooo! Open the door please. Please? I want to move in. The designer calls it “vintage vernacular”. The language is colourful, a little old fashioned but definitely with street cred. A little retro, a little indie, a little Hollywood Regency glam. A lot of lovely! Fab house by Brett Mickan Interior Design.

The queen of darkness

Posted on Wed, 10 Jul 2013 by KiM

I was shocked to discover recently that we have never done a proper post featuring the brilliance that is designer Abigail Ahern. Jo and I have been obsessed with her for years, as her dark, dramatic and vintage approach to decorating is so appealing to us both. I’m sure most of you are familair with her work and these photos, but I had to share because Abigail ROCKS and I feel the need to sing her praises. (To white or to black…that is the question….)

LOOOOOOVE the penguin lamp above that Abigail designed as part of her new collection for Debenhams.
